Charge 3 has a black screen and won't respond

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My fitbit is currently on a black screen and there is absolutely nothing I can do with it.

It was at about 80-90% charge when it went completely dead.

It started to act strangely throughout the dead, where it would keep vibrating and going into the menu page on it's own without me doing anything. It stopped after maybe 30 minutes and died about 4 hours later.

I tried doing a hard restart, but the button doesn't respond at all.

I can't reboot it from the device, but I did do it before it died during the day to no avail.

The device is about a year old now.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @greatbev @Terrox.

Thank you for joining the thread and sharing that you're experiencing the same issue with your devices. I recommend doing the following:

  1. Restart the device: How do I restart my Fitbit device?
  2. Change a clock face: How do I change the clock face on my Fitbit device?
  3. Long restart:
  • Connect the device to the charging cable.
  • While the device is plugged into the charging cable, press and hold the button down for 15 seconds.
  • The device turns on and shows a battery icon. Two vibrations occur: first a short vibration, then a medium vibration
  • The device turns off.
  • The device turns on and shows a progress bar and short vibrations occur. The progress bar completes. Note: A total of 7 short vibrations occur.
  • Remove the device from the charging cable. The device shuts down.
  • Important: Plug the device into the charging cable again.

Additionally, I recommend checking if your Fitbit app is updated to the latest version as updates come with new features and bug fixes: How do I update the Fitbit app?

Keep me posted on the outcome.

My screen is totally blank as well but my charge 3 still vibrates when I push the side button. I’ve tried the regular restart and the long restart steps in your email. I cannot change the clock face because my app says there is no device connected. (I checked my Bluetooth connection on my phone settings, and my charge 3 shows it is not in range. Please help!

I have exactly the same issue. Earlier in the week, it went black and kept vibrating. Apparently the battery had drained although no battery low symbol came up. I fully charged it, and it has happened again. Its beennon charge yesterday and this morning. I have tried a long reset, it makes one long vibration and that is it. This was a replacement that I have only had a week or 2 as the screen went on my old one. This new one does not hold its charge, doesnt seem to sync, doesnt warn that the battery is low, takes ages to charge, and looks like its completely dead now. Really not impressed as it's a new replacement

Hi there.  My issue is similar, but with some differences to what others have mentioned.

While I was watching TV, my wife noticed that my Charge 3 was flashing.  Fairly random, but perhaps in 3 blinks, then 2 blinks, then one blink, then start over again.  The it would stop.  I would scroll down to see some other info, and the blinking would start up again and jump back up to the clock face screen.  I also noticed that the battery was at 48%, when I had charged it earlier in the day.  This is first time I had noticed any bad battery performance.

Within an hour, the screen went blank, and there is no vibration when I push the button or plug it into the charger.  It does still sync, charge, and track steps.  I have tried the 8 second and 15 second reboots, to no avail.

Any help you can offer is appreciated!

I am guessing that the replacement was a refurbished one.
They obviously have serious issues if they cannot address it, judging by the answers they provide.
Did they contact you and offer the replacement?

Hi, my charge 3 has been slowly getting dimmer over the last week, yesterday could hardly see it. I connected it with the charger and restarted and still nothing changed, tried the long restart but could not get that to work.  I contacted the 'chat' and they were really helpful having exhausted all the options they will be replacing my charge3 as still in warranty.  Thank you Fitbit for the support, very efficient service. Will buy again when time to renew.

I have the same problem. Followed all the steps noted above and finally got a smiley face and then the flashing Fitbit logo with a 001 message.
