Charge 3 has a blank screen

I got a Charge 3 passed down to me a while ago after a relative upgraded to a Charge 5. I didn’t have the chance to set it up yet so I just now got around to it and the screen is completely blank. It still vibrates, the green light in the back works, and it pairs to my device (but I can’t set it up any further after that since I can’t see any code on the screen). I have tried holding down the button for 8 and 10 and 15 seconds, taking it on and off the charger, checking that the charger is secure, over and over again with no results. What can I do?

Thanks for the details regarding the situation that you have with the Charge 3. I'd suggest you performing these steps:

  • Plug the device into the charging cable.
  • While the device is plugged into the charging cable, hold the button down for 15 seconds.
  • Remove your finger from button. Note: Device won't have a smiley face icon and should be off with a black screen.
  • Remove the device from the charging cable.
  • Plug the device into the charging cable again.
  • The smiley face icon appears on the screen.

I’m having the exact same problem, did what you suggested and still no smiley face

I've tried this for hours and I'm having the same problem too. It's fully charged. Sensors are on still, synced to my phone and nothing! Just a black screen.

Hi there,

I noticed the black screen seems to be a common problem for fit bit charge 3.

Mine was inactive and and was out battery for a while. When i recharged it, the screen is black, can feel the vibration, it did update stat but nothing on display.

I tried several times to reset the fit bit with charger but there is nothing on display. I also tried changing the display and that didn't work. Thinking that bluetooth connected devices affect it, i removed the fitbit to set it up again but now i can't because i can't bluetooth verification number. Can i get this escalated to technical service team.

This may sound silly, but have you checked that your screen brightness isn't on 'low'? I thought I had the same issue but looking at the fitbit from different angles, I could see a feint display. All was well again when I adjusted the brightness to normal.

That might be the issue but I can’t see anything so how do I change the screen brightness. Looking from different angle or in the dark doesn’t help 🤦🏻‍:female_sign: 

any more tips you can share?

Hi I’ve tried to contact customer support … no response via twitter..

Could someone tell me in support which button to hold down for 15secs? The side button is occasionally making a noise or vibration.. The screen is completely black. How can I reset brightness when I can’t see anything. Dum am I or is this Fitbit only working for a couple of years then caput?! Please help it was a gift Christmas 2019 used daily for two years then nothing. It’s useless at moment yet battery is full.

Try pressing on button once,

Swipe left 4 times

Then tap top half of the screen twice.

This might work (fingers crossed) if it's the brightness on low.

There are 3 settings for brightness, normal, auto and low. I hope this works for you.

Thank you MVSPURS for help, I remembered how to access Settings but still no joy. I’m not the only one it seems facing trouble. I’ll see if anyone from Fitbit Support provides any assistance! Cheers again.
