Charge 3 heart rate and display issues

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My Charge 3 stopped measuring Heart Rate and there are No Green Flashing Lights on the back of the Fitbit since the May16, 2022 Version 3.59 - 201.3 MB update.

I have tried all the suggested soft reboots in the Community posts that others have suggested several times to no avail, and since these attempts the screen display now has horizontal black lines running through the displays.

The Charge 3 is still registering steps, Km and floors during the day when I open the Fitbit app on my iPad but no Heart Rate and sleep pattern.

I wish the Heart rate bpm would work properly as I miss the daily sleep pattern.

Sadly the Charge 3 is past the warranty period, but was working fine until the most recent update.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @daveorleans.

Thanks for trying to resolve the issues you’ve had with your Fitbit Charge 3 before getting in touch with us.

In addition to the regular restart, you can perform a long restart:

  1. Connect the device to the charging cable.
  2. While the device is plugged into the charging cable, press and hold the button down for 15 seconds.
  3. The device turns on and shows a battery icon. Two vibrations occur: first a short vibration, then a medium vibration.
  4. The device turns off.
  5. The device turns on and shows a progress bar and short vibrations occur. The progress bar completes. Note: A total of 7 short vibrations occur.
  6. Remove the device from the charging cable. The device shuts down.
  7. Important: Plug the device into the charging cable again.

You can also try to change the clock face of your Tracker:

  • From the Today tab EdsonFitbit_0-1653878447384.png in the Fitbit app, tap your profile picture > Charge 3 tile.
  • Tap Clock Faces.
  • Browse the available clock faces. Tap a clock face to see a detailed view.
  • Tap Install to add the clock face to Charge 3.

Hope this helps.

Hello Edson

i performed the regular restart on my Charge 3 as you suggested without seeing any green flashing lights on the back of my Charge 3, by opening the Settings app on my Charge 3 device, tapped About then Reboot Device selected the Checkmark.

i have also done the following several times without any change. It took 3 attempts to get the Smiley face, still no Green flashing lights and hence no Heart rate indication.

  1. Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
  2. Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable must lock securely with the port.
  3. Make sure the button on your tracker is aligned with the button opening on the charging cable. You’ll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you see a battery icon on your tracker’s display.
  4. Press and hold the button to restart your tracker
    1. Charge 3—press and hold the button on your tracker for 8 seconds. Release the button. When you see a smile icon and the tracker vibrates, the tracker restarted.

Lastly I performed the long restart as follows -

Note - After the screen display turned off in Step 4 - Nothing else occurred, the Charge 3 did not turn on, did not show a progress bar nor were there any additional vibrations. I waited 15 mins and but nothing displays.
I unplugged my Charge 3 as Step 6 states.
Plugged the device into the charging cable again, as in Step 7, and Battery smiley face fully charged is displayed with the current time and waited and waited but nothing else occurred. How long do I have to wait in steps 5 and 7 to see a progress bar or vibrations? ?  Nothing displays for me unless I press the side button and still only Battery life and current time.
After 30 minutes of waiting I checked to see if any green flashing lights had returned….nothing.
Why the last step 7 to plug the Charge 3 back into the charging cable.? and for how long? ?
I repeated this Long restart at least 3 more times and still no Green flashing lights, heart rate and sleep pattern.
I think my Charge 3 is dying a slow death and destined to be recycled.
Oh, and Changing the clock face has no effect on flashing lights either. At least my daily steps are still counting.
    Disappointed Charge 3 Fitbit user.

It seems there are several issues with update.  Also, as soon as  I signed up for premium, my sleep, breathing, and heart monitoring stopped working.  Contacted customer support but gave up after being disconnected.  But the tech did say something about the android version I am currently using.  It worked find until the update.  I did a hard reboot multiple times.  I give up.  Will have to leave this to the younger generation.  I can't help but think that Fitbit knew some of us would be sacrificed as a result of this update.  Shame on them for not addressing its customer concerns.

I guess I'll try customer support online or give them a call eventually as you say Edson, hoping the next planned update Fitbit sends out will address the issue of lost heart rate monitoring and resolve the issue I and others have experienced.  Fingers crossed in the meantime.
