Charge 3 inaccurate floor count

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Just bought a Charge 3 just a few days ago. From the first day I noticed that the floor count is way off. On the first day I took a trip and drove about 500 miles and my Charge 3 counted 8 floors despite the fact that I did not climb any stairs (step count was certainly off as well). Today I walked / ran 5K and it registered that I climbed 16 floors!

I bought the Charge 3 because of this feature but I am starting to regret that I didn't go for a cheaper model. Any ideas of what might be causing this?

A warm welcome to the Community @BetaBarroca.

Your Charge 3 may give you credit for extra floors for a variety of reasons. Devices may track floors while doing everyday tasks such as opening doors, driving, or riding elevators or escalators, or from abrupt weather and atmospheric pressure changes exposure to excess moisture can also result in extra floors.

I recommend wearing your device loosely during exercise. If you want to remove floors from your account, follow the instructions provide in the help article How do I delete steps and floors? and please don't insert anything into the altimeter hole on your device.

I have the same issues as @BetaBarroca.  Why would the solution involve removing stairs? This was a feature which helped me decide on "upgrading" to the Charge 3?  I often get the celebration on my wrist of completing 10K steps when I know by activity and time of day there is no way this is correct. When I am certain that I have not completed 10K steps or climbed any stairs, it is frustrating to know that the Charge 3 is faulty. I have tried the reset steps and nothing has improved. I didn't have issues with the Flex or Alta so I convinced myself that the extra features would be great. Disappointed!

Hello All,

I am going crazy. For me I take motorbike rides everyday twice and it calculates 20 floors each ride. I can’t keep deleting. Today even when I am traveling by bus it’s calculating steps and floor additional to what I have taken.

Hi ... I had never had a problem with high floor counts until the past three days. Suddenly, I'm racking up 50+ floors a day when I should be at roughly 10. Any idea for this suddent discrepancy?

Hello, I don't think that logging driving to negate floors is feasible.  The stair count is all over the place and would require multiple entries.  Also, I don't want to remove my steps because I was actually moving around.  Any other suggestions?  I too am a very disappointed user.  I bought the Charge 3 for swimming along with it's other features.  Regret that now.

This used to work accurately with my charge 2 but it's whacky in the charge 3

I've noticed this inaccuracy with the floor count lately too.  For example, when I got out of bed this morning my Charge 3 was showing I had climbed 6 flights of stairs and no, I was not stair climbing in my sleep.

I never had this problem up until couple of days ago! Might be because of sudden changes in weather inside and outside..but nevertheless is annoying! Please FIX THIS. And "deleting" floors by entering "driving exercise" is utterly meaningless and stupid! why can't we just delete floors?

I am having a similar problem, only worse. i climbed one flight of stairs when I arrived at work today. I have basically been sitting still at my desk for 5 hours. I have credit for 22 flights of stairs. There is definitely an issue with the stair counter. I had the same problem with an earlier fitbit and customer service told me it was a known issue and replaced that fitbit with a different model. I was hoping you had resolved this by now

No it's not about the device. It's about how it measures the floors.  based on support:

"Your device may give you credit for extra floors for a variety of reasons. Devices may track floors while doing everyday tasks such as opening doors, driving, or riding elevators or escalators, or from abrupt weather and atmospheric pressure changes Exposure to excess moisture can also result in extra floors."

There just should be an easy way to delete Floors like there is for exercises. I have added a post in the feature suggestion section, you can go there and reply/upvote there:

The same for me.

I am enjoying the new features of Charge 3 a lot, but this is very annoying!

Please add a post in the "feature suggestion" ... I added one but they said it already existed: you can add driving as an exercise and it will "decrease" the steps/floor effect ...which to is STUPID... you should be able to delete floors manually!

I'm having same problem also

@AlejandraFitbit Many people are having this issue, and the feature is tagged as "existing" in feature suggestion forum. Can you please do something about this? at least not deleting our feature suggestions?

Same problem here. 147 floors credited in 1 day, none climbed though...

Not to mention that driving now counts as exercise! You can meet all of your activity goals by removing erroneous steps and floors from your commute every day. Maybe it would be easier to add a "driving mode" feature to prevent counting steps/floors.

It's not just driving, I woke up the other day and had credit for 5 floors...  Never had this issue with my Charge 2, I'm honestly almost regretting getting the 3 when so far other than being waterproof I liked everything about the 2 better.

Still having issues with the Charge 3. Now the time will not display and it gets stuck on the smiley face. I've tried all the suggested restarting steps. This is truly frustrating and I wish I never upgraded. When I plug it in, it will vibrate once if I hold the side button, but that is it. I have to unplug and re-plug to get the vibrate again and now no smiley face, no flashing green lights on the back. This is on top of still counting stairs I haven't climbed and providing celebration for 10K steps which I know I haven't completed. What is the process for an exchange?  I am sick of troubleshooting and failed attempts at fixing this lemon.

So what you are saying here is that it does not work. If I have to count the flights of stairs myself, why have a fitbit?
