Charge 3 not charging properly and it drains the battery quickly

Following up the draining 10% an hour problem, the fitbit no longer charges properly. 

It shows 100%, all happy. Put it on for 1 minute, drops to 1% then 0...dies.

I haven't gone over this cycle over 10 times, each time letting it charge for 30 minutes to an hour.

Sometimes I would reset it when it's done at 100%, it may show just 1% again for a bit, then 100%. 

I reset it and it shows 1%. It just bounces between 100% and 1%. 

No, if the contacts are dirty, it wouldn't be charging at all.

Thank you very much for the detailed information and I also appreciate the troubleshooting steps you've followed. While you have restarted or reset your Fitbit device, I would recommend performing a long restart. To do the long restart, please follow these steps: 

 

  1. Connect the device to the charging cable. 
  2. While the device is plugged into the charging cable, press and hold the button down for 15 seconds. 
  3. The device turns on and shows a battery icon. Two vibrations occur: first a short vibration, then a medium vibration. 
  4. The device turns off.
  5. The device turns on and shows a progress bar and short vibrations occur. The progress bar completes. Note: A total of 7 short vibrations occur. 
  6. Remove the device from the charging cable. The device shuts down.
  7. Important: Plug the device into the charging cable again.

Looks like my device is regressing.....now it only gives me 6 vibes, off charger, on charger, 6 vibes again

It used to go to 7, show 0%, charges to 1% then jumps to 100%
