My charge 3 is very intermittent when recording my sleep pattern. It mostly records a basic pattern it has only recorded a detailed pattern about 3 times since I got it 3 weeks ago. I’ve tried moving it’s position but no luck. Am I doing something wrong?

Welcome on board @Rick2681, it's nice to see you around the forums! Thanks for letting me know you've tried moving the position of your tracker in order to get sleep stages, nice way to go!
As you know, sleep stages are based on heart rate data, so make sure that you're getting a solid heart rate reading , since sleep stages requires consistent HR. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight. Also, double check that your watch is charged up.
Additionally, I'd recommend checking the following that could be preventing you from receiving sleep stages:
For more information about why you see your sleep pattern, tap or click the sleep record that shows your sleep pattern.
In addition, I think it's great that you update the Fitbit app to the latest version (iOS and Android). I always recommend keeping both the tracker and the Fitbit app up to date with the latest versions.
Hope this helps my friend!

I spoke too soon. Since the recent update to my charge 3 my sleep tracker has reverted to basic info. Prior to the update it worked faultlessly. I have tried restarting / rebooting all to no avail. Have you any suggestions?

I am curious also. I wear the fitbit on my non-dominant wrist. However, I also sleep on that side. I've gotten 4 sleep stages readings in over 14 days. Honestly, if i put the fit bit higher on my wrist, it slides down closer to my hand. It's frustrating that it keeps track of my heart rate all day, but doesn't when i sleep.

Add me to that frustrating list. I received stages data once in the past three weeks, worn on non dominant hand, tried all recommendations as per the manual. The main reason for me purchasing this product is to track my sleep stages, very disappointed. Hope to hear of a sustainable solution to this issue.

Do I have the same App as any one else???
I don't see the options being mentioned here - the 'begin sleep now' in this post being just one example

Yes same app as required by the manual, also the ''begin sleep now' option was considered, as per the manual list of options.

I don't have any manual with mine, and the app has nothing visible about a 'begin now'

You should not have to re-boot or re-start or clear data to get sleep stage data. It seems that many charge 3 users do not get sleep stage info, including me. I have spoken to fitbit regarding this issue and have tried their suggestions to no avail. This is unacceptable and the firmware needs to be fixed to correct this. I believe that if you have a very low bpm heart rate, (40-50), the charge 3 does not pick up the sleep stages. So far, I have worn my charge 3 on my dominant & non-dominant wrist, tight & slightly lose, one inch & two inches below and above my wrist bone and got nothing. I also have used normal & sensitive settings and also no change. Fitbit needs to fix this. I am very disappointed.

I am in agreement, I am curious though, to me it looks like the actual hardware team - meaning the device itself and the embedded software in it are capturing more data than the external apps development team will show you. (they do the apps for your mobile phone or computer)
If they got the apps development teams to get with the program, we could likely see more. Your own example is a perfect one:
if you could 'drill down' on the heart rate monitor to the shortest possible collection interval (not the useless hourly chart the app has now) you could find those low heart rate moments & then correlate those to the sleep monitoring for the same time period. (but the time period for sleep monitoring is much too general as well)
It looks like this data IS being collected, you can see more heart rate detail on the web site, and the little pink 'awake' dots on sleep monitor are not permitting more detail drill down data, but the fact that it is all there suggests strongly that it is less the firmware than the apps actually SHOWING the data

My resting bpm heart rate is 44. My wife’s bpm resting heart rate is 83. She always gets her sleep stages. I don’t. As a test, we switched charge 3’s one night. She got sleep stage data on my charge 3 and my sleep stage data did not register on her charge 3. I’m not the only one with this issue. Fitbit needs to address this problem ASAP. We should not have to try all these suggestions, which do not work. Sleep stages should regester without any intervention.

Regarding the issue of not tracking sleep stages, you mentioned making sure you were sleeping at least three hours. Does this mean that if you get up to go to the bathroom a couple times during the night, that it might not track your sleep stages? I've just received my Charge 3 this week and still trying to figure it out. I haven't been able to find where it's tracked my sleep stages, only the amount of time I slept.

I have the same problem, tried everything suggested here (reboot, sensitivity, change wrists, 2/3 inches, etc) and nothing works. My resting heart rate is 40 like others reported here.
Are we going to hear anything from the company or will you let us in the vacuum?

So I found an annoying but effective solution. Delete the log that the Fitbit recorded automatically. Enter the time you went to bed, and woke up manually.... Voila! I've got my R.E.M., deep sleep, the works! It's worked two nights in a row now. The first night I used the "begin sleep now" button, and the second night I did not. Deleting and manually entering my time worked for both! I hope this helps, and if it stops working for me I will definitely update you.

Deleting did not work for me - I still have it showing me as 'asleep' when I was actually awake and up
