Charge 3 recording extra floors

My Charge 3 tracks stairs I have not climbed. I have a drop foot and step down hard with my left foot but not sure if that is the reason. I would like to turn that off but it won’t let me. Any suggestions? I think I’m double dipping either the calories. I only walk on the treadmill.

I can not put Fitbit in drive mode  . I tried both ways. I have an iPad but there is not a log in tab on my dashboard. I tried going to my work out icon. Touched the stop watch. Typed in drive but nothing comes up. Today I got 63 floors. Only went up one ladder today.

Hi @Mraysbrook, it's nice to see a new member around!

Thanks for letting me know about your Charge 3 behavior after the update, as well for restarting it. This sounds strange, and I'm just wondering if by any chance there was a fan or anything similar next to your device when you were on the couch or dinner table. Also, I'd recommend to perform a long restart with the following steps:

  1. Plug your device back into the charging cable and hold the button down for 15 seconds.
  2. The device turns on and shows a battery icon. Two vibrations occur: first a short vibration, then a medium vibration.
  3. The device turns off.
  4. The device turns on and shows a progress bar and short vibrations occur. The progress bar completes. Note: A total of 7 short vibrations occur.
  5. Remove the device from the charging cable. The device shuts down.
  6. Important: Plug the device into the charging cable again.

Let me know how it goes.

Hello @Eg2019, thanks for coming back! As mentioned above, it's not possible to delete steps and floors, but you can achieve the same result by negating them.

However, it does negate the steps/floors your Charge 3 have added during that time you got them. I've manually added "Driving" and my graph negate the steps for that period of time.

Keep in mind that your steps/floors will be recalculated if you manually log an activity as the manually logged activity takes precedence over the steps/floors you tracked while wearing your tracker at that point in time.

To clarify this, I did a "Walk" activity yesterday at 8:13 AM and the duration was 15:22. So, I manually logged "Driving" as suggested here. So I typed:

Date: 2019-04-28

Start time: 8:13 AM

Duration: 15:22

Calories: 144 (what my walk activity was showing, however, calories is optional)

Then, I logged this and my data decreased for the time period I've specified.

I'll be around if you need further assistance.

So if I figure out how to put my time in as drive. I will also be taking out step for the day? The step count I fell is correct. It is just adding in floors that I am not climbing. I did not have this problem with the charge 2 . That I had before this charge 3. Sounds like this is a problem that a lot of people have. Is there going to be an update to fix this problem? I also wonder how many extra calories it counts. I would think going up steps would burn more calories than just walking

My Fitbit Charge 2 accurately recorded floors for two years. I bought the Charge 3 two weeks ago and the floor count has been wildly inaccurate. Off by 90-125 floors. I'm not fussing around with negating anything. Totally unacceptable to ask a customer to do that. Will there be a firmware fix? Also, do I return the product to the store where I bought it or do I have to go through Fitbit?

I have had mine sine Christmas, it just started to count floors for same reason. Has only been a week since it changed. Is ir weather related?

Seriously, Fitbit. I know there are stair counting issues... But I told my Charge 3 I was biking. There was a little picture of a bike. It was paired to my phone and tracking the ride. Everyone agreed I was biking. So why is the Charge 3 still counting stairs when it *knows* I'm biking?

It's great to see you around @F.Fletch.

Your Charge 3 uses both an accelerometer and altimeter to track floors, and registers a floor when detecting continuous motion combined with an elevation gain of about 10 feet.

Your device may give you credit for extra floors for a variety of reasons. Devices may track floors while doing everyday tasks such as opening doors, driving, or riding elevators or escalators, or from abrupt weather and atmospheric pressure changes Exposure to excess moisture can also result in extra floors.

I recommend wearing your Charge 3 loosely during exercise and if you want to remove floors from your account, follow the instructions provided in the help article: How do I delete steps and floors?.

I played tennis for two hours.  Hardly registered any steps but did say I climbed 18 flights of stairs.  What the heck?

Recently, my Charge 3 has been over counting the number of flights of stairs.  Without changing my routine, I am now ending the day with 125-150 flights when before 20 was a normal number for me.

Thanks in advance for you insight.

Well Fitbit sent for me to mark an accepted answer.  I don't see one lol.  Today my fitbit charge 3 says I did 109 floors so far.  I still live in a ranch home.  I did go out to the bank and for a bike ride.  Made some altitude on the bike ride, but since it's 0 steps I would hope it eliminates floors for that 2 hours, not sure.  But no, there is no answer for this, it obviously just doesn't work.  They should probably remove the floors settings from their devices until they find a way to make it work.  I may just remove the visual from my tile so I don't track inaccurate floors.

just had the charge 3 for 4 days now. every day I get an unreasonably high floors count. more than 100% error ,  omparing to my iphone which I find to be very reliable.

This is really upsetting, as I try to keep minimal daily floors climb.

I’m really disapointed from this. why sell a product which does not work properly ???

My everyday tasks have not changed much lately, and my watch tells me I have walked 4 flights before I even leave for work in the AM (no stairs in my home). Before even exercising it says I have been up 74 flights. In the recent past I would have to walk stairs to get even to 10 fights.

This is a known issue and Fitbit has no fix for it yet.  There are numerous threads from numerous users (me included) complaining.  My personal suggestion is for you to remove the floors indicator from your app so that it is not going to enrage you every single time you open the app and just refer to your phone for floors count.  My iPhone SE cannot count floors so I bought the Charge 3 hoping to utilize the altimeter.  That’s a big disappointment when I notice the erroneous floors counts.  Just today I had 33 floors awarded for 30 minutes or so mowing the lawn.  I recently received a Skydiver badge for climbing 1000 floors and needless to say I know I have nowhere close to that numbers!

Hello there @mblack13, thanks for coming back and the details provided.

I'd recommend to manually reboot your Charge 3 and keep testing it the next couple of days to see how it goes. From the clock face, swipe to Settings and tap Reboot Device

Let me know if your device keeps doing the same during the week, I'll be glad to continue assisting you.

I’ve tried shutting it down and restarted as per below and still is recording flights as my initial problem.  I don’t have a fan running at all this time of year.  Looking back through the history it seems to have started sometime in February and then major floors started to be recorded in or around April 15th 2019 when I started getting at least 10 floors a day which reality I was getting maybe 2-3.

Is there anyone got this issue of extra floor count resolved? I had this issue on my brand new charge 3. Fitbit got it replaced, but the new tracker also had the same issue and Fitbit is still not able to resolve the issue.

I am still in the 30 days return period of the device. So I am wondering if this issue is resolvable, otherwise I will return my charge 3 to the store.
