Charge 3 screen blank and won’t reboot

I’ve had my Charge 3 for 14 months and apart from a couple of teething problems it has been great until 2 days ago. I got the ‘flashy’ message to say I had met my step goal for the day but the message seemed to get stuck and went very strange almost looking like a QR Scan code!  I kept tapping the screen to get the clock face back but by the next day the screen went blank. I have tried several times to change the clock face then the 8 second reboot and the 15 second reboot. The tracker still vibrates and alerts me to move etc but I have to check the app to see how I’m doing. 
I have seen several posts about this problem and quite a few seem to be able to reboot successfully. Has my tracker just died or is there any hope?! Not cheap to replace if it only lasts a year!  I’m in the UK if that’s relevant.
