Charge 3 screen dimmed and now half black

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi there, about 2 weeks ago the screen on my device was way way too dim. Despite restarting it numerous times, it still didn’t increase. This morning, now the top half of the screen isn’t visible at all and the bottom half is still very dim. I have only had this Fitbit for about 7 months. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you!

Hi @CaitlinA. Welcome on board, it's great to see a new face around!

Thanks for letting me know about your Charge 3, as well for trying the restart. I'm wondering if you've tried adjusting the brightness level on your main device by tapping settings > brightness level. If so, I'd recommend to perform a long restart with the following steps:

  1. Plug your device back into the charging cable and hold the button down for 15 seconds.
  2. The device turns on and shows a battery icon. Two vibrations occur: first a short vibration, then a medium vibration.
  3. The device turns off.
  4. The device turns on and shows a progress bar and short vibrations occur. The progress bar completes. Note: A total of 7 short vibrations occur.
  5. Remove the device from the charging cable. The device shuts down.
  6. Important: Plug the device into the charging cable again.

Keep me posted. Smiley Happy

Thank you for your reply! Unfortunately, nothing is showing on the screen at all now. When I follow those steps, it buzzes like it’s supposed to, but nothing is on the screen at all now. I’ve tried a couple of times with the same result. Any other ideas?

thank you again!

I am currently experiencing the same problem, tried everything and nothing has worked, help!

it's a common issue that appears to be affecting a lot of charge 3's.

talk to fitbit support directly about getting a replacement - rather than in this forum. the forum support will only every eventually escalate you to the real support, so just go direct to them now [i had mine replaced] - if that fails talk to your original retailer, get a refund

A few days ago my Heart Rate Monitor started going hay wire. I tried giving the Fitbit a little bit more charge. That didn't resolve anything the monitor was showing like 160 as my resting heart rate, and it kept increasing. At the same time my Screen has been half black at the top barely showing the time. Eventually, the Screen went completely dead and the iPhone app showed 70% charged. I then did a Soft Reset and the phone came back on but the screen was still half black and the heart rate monitor is still showing high resting heart rate. I want a replacement watch because I have seen that this is a trending issue.

Same problem, except vertical grey bands. Factory reset and long restart don't address issue.

Hi @SistaShoshanah and @DDDJohnson. Welcome to the Community and I'm sorry for my delayed response.

Thanks for letting me know about your Charge 3 devices, as well for trying the restart process on your own. I understand you as your devices should be working well to track your data, I'll be here to help you out with this. Just to confirm, have you tried changing the clock face on the Fitbit app? If not, please give it a try and then perform a long restart which is a different process from the regular restart.

I'll be around, keep me posted.

I tried changing the clock face, to no change. When I tried to follow the
instructions for a long restart, the progress bar appeared, then
disappeared without finishing. I tried this 3 times with the same result.

I may have lost my mind, but I have a backup here, somewhere.

Howdy! This same thing has happened to me, and I have scoured through the various blogs to find out how to fix it. I restarted it several times, and it still has not changed. What would be the next step in fixing this issue? Thank you!

My Charge 3 is doing the same thing. In fact it started acting wonky yeasterday. I told me I made all of my goals yesterday and today it says I missed 90%. Additionally, the screen turned super dim and now 80% of the screen is dark. I have attempted reset several times to no avail. I have reset the clock face 3 times and its a big no go. 😞

Thanks for mentioning "I'm wondering if you've tried adjusting the brightness level on your main device by tapping settings > brightness level". When the screen is dim, this tip seemed amusing in a slightly odd way. But sitting in a dark room, I barely saw the word brightness. Oh, my, it worked. Thank you a  googolplex.

The top half of my charge 3 screen has gone dark. What do I do about this?

Thank you, Hilary Loble,

I did adjust the brightness level which I did not know I could. Very hard to do since you really can't see the screen since it is dim. Yet I did it and I am so delighted. You saved me buying a new Fitbit and restored my confidence in the product.  Signed, MsJet.

Can you help me with the same problem? My screen is now almost completely dark. I can’t read anything on it.
