Over the last 6 months, black lines have appeared ony screen, it's now so bad I can't read any stats. I have had the watch about 18 months.

@Teresasnowden It's great to see you in our Fitbit Community. Regarding the black lines that appeared on the screen of your Charge 3, I'd like you to restart it as described in this help article.
After this, monitor your Charge 3 and see if the black lines disappear from the screen.
