Charge 3 screen is now unreadable outdoor but indoor only

I'm afraid my Fitbit charge 3 is no longer readable outdoor. It used to be bright enough, but now the screen is totally unreadable outdoor (even in a cloudy day).

 

I tried rebooting the device and also Settings -> Brightness -> Auto / Normal and make sure it's not in Sleep mode. It is simply no longer bright enough outdoor.

 

My firmware version is the latest I believe, 28.20001.88.11.

 

I am out of warranty, however. Is it a hardware or software issue?

I am having the same issue. I decided to go ahead and upgrade while they have the promotion going. The 2 never went bad. I hope the 4 is more reliable.
