My charge 3 was working fine and I haven’t had it that long. Three days ago the screen went so dim I can hardly see the display at all. I’ve tried changing the brightness and it doesn’t help...

Could be you are in Sleep Mode. Hold in side button a few seconds to turn it off or on.

I have the same problem. My dim display started after the last firmware update. I contacted customer support and went thru all the trouble shooting steps. They gave me a case number and an offer for 35% off a new Fitbit.
