Charge 3 tracked steps when I wasn't moving

Hi, my fitbit charge 3 is tracking steps early in the morning when I have barely even moved. I was only up for maybe an hour just barely made my coffee and sat down at the table and some how all of those steps added up to over 34,000 steps. How is that magically possible, I don't walk that much in a day I'm lucky if I get to 15,000 steps. This has happened several times and I've tried restarting my fitbit and it didn't help. As grateful as I am to the thousand of extra steps I took I'd rather have a little more accuracy. Has anyone else seen this issue?

Hi @lma413, it's great to see you in our Fitbit Community. I'm sorry to hear that your Charge 3 has tracked a huge amount of steps, even when you are not moving or walking.

Please try a long restart. To do so on your device, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Connect the device to the charging cable.
  2. While the device is plugged into the charging cable, press and hold the button down for 15 seconds.
  3. The device turns on and shows a battery icon. Two vibrations occur: first a short vibration, then a medium vibration.
  4. The device turns off.
  5. The device turns on and shows a progress bar and short vibrations occur. The progress bar completes. Note: A total of 7 short vibrations occur.
  6. Remove the device from the charging cable. The device shuts down.
  7. Important: Plug the device into the charging cable again

After this, check out this help page, which explains why your Fitbit device may track extra steps.

Keep me posted on the outcome.

Hi, thank you for the help. I tried this but I never got the device to vibrate when I held down. Do fitbits not last very long when used a lot? This is the second one I've owned and usually after 2 or 3 years of owning the device I begin to have trouble with them.
