Charge 3 wildly overcounting flights of stairs

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I feel like my Charge 3 has always overcounted stairs, but lately it's in overdrive. It routinely credits me with 100+ flights, and I got my first-ever 150 badge for no reason yesterday. I do go up and down stairs a good amount and I understand that it can count an uphill walk outside, but this a more reasonable estimate would be 30-40.

Now the device counts several flights when I'm running on a treadmill (not even on an incline, not that that should matter). The other day I checked out of a hotel -- I got up, packed my suitcase, went to the elevator, and found that I had already been credited with six flights of stairs.

Any idea what's causing this?

Hello @YEM. Nice to see you around.

Thank you very much for the detailed information. At this time, I'd like to let you know that your Fitbit device may give you credit for extra floors for a variety of reasons. Devices may track floors while doing everyday tasks such as opening doors, driving, or riding elevators or escalators, or from abrupt weather and atmospheric pressure changes. Exposure to excess moisture can also result in extra floors.

For more information, see Why does my Fitbit device count extra floors? You can also find more information about tracking activity in this help article How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

On a side note, I'd recommend performing a long restart to your Charge 3 by following the instructions below:

  1. Connect the device to the charging cable.
  2. While the device is plugged into the charging cable, press and hold the button down for 15 seconds.
  3. The device turns on and shows a battery icon. Two vibrations occur: first a short vibration, then a medium vibration.
  4. The device turns off.
  5. The device turns on and shows a progress bar and short vibrations occur. The progress bar completes. Note: A total of 7 short vibrations occur.
  6. Remove the device from the charging cable. The device shuts down.
  7. Important: Plug the device into the charging cable again.

Lastly, please note that while you can’t delete steps and floors; you can log a non-step-based activity such as driving to override the steps or floors. For more information, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

Hope this helps.

Thank you for this. I still don't understand why it seems to have gone completely haywire in recent weeks. I mentioned I was traveling a bit, but mostly I've been staying at home and doing the same things I normally do. This morning, I woke up, got dressed, walked *down* the stairs, and found that I had already been credited with climbing five floors!

An extra flight or two (or ten) per day I might understand, but over a hundred??
