Charge 3 will only display a smiley face

My charge 3 needed to charge and I plugged it in over night and now nothing else will show on the screen except a smiley face once in a while. How do I correct this problem?

Welcome to the Community Forums @Lfadden! Thanks for reporting to us about your Charge 3's behavior.

If the device is only showing the smiley face, I'd recommend restarting it by following the steps below:

  1. Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
  2. Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable must lock securely with the port.
  3. Make sure the button on your tracker is aligned with the button opening on the charging cable. You’ll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you see a battery icon on your tracker’s display.
  4. Press and hold the button on your tracker for 8 seconds. Release the button. When you see a smile icon and the tracker vibrates, the tracker restarted.
  5. Unplug your tracker from the charging cable.

Give this a go and let me know the outcome.

I have the same problem and I have tried this but it won't help. My charge 3 just keeps going off. When I connect it to charge, just the smiley face comes on, it stays on for only a minute or so: maybe less then turns off again. What could be the problem? and how can I fix it?

This did not work for my Fitbit charge 3.  This tracker, which is supposed to work in the water and track swimming, started having this problem right after a swim and nothing I’m reading here is working.  This is my 5th Fitbit, I think I’m done.

Same exact problem with mine

I found that the 2 little pads where the charger connects were pitted
and would not connect , and therefore would not charge up

I have given up on it and ordered a new one
