Charge 3 won't count my steps when I upstairs

My Fitbit charge 3 not picking up step when I upstairs but I am holding onto the railing would that make it not pick up the steps. I don't hold onto the railing all the time either. I just don't want to lose all the work I have done for the day either.

I haven't tried this, but I think the difference would be if you gradually slide your hand up the rail, or move it and then stop with each step, thinking separate movements likelier to get steps.  If just smoothly gliding hand up the rail, your wrist would not see the step-like arm motion.  Some have suggested not holding onto rail at all. Though that would probable insure steps, I certainly would not recommend, as safety is more important than step count.

I do move my hand up the railing and I have had my aram moving beside me. It's been doing this off and on since I had it. But I don't go upstairs everyday just on Sunday so I can get to my Sunday school class room.

Sorry to jump in, but looking over several (and there are a LOT) of threads, I have to ask this Charge 3 question:

Is it normal for a Charge 3 (for a relevant example) to just die by fading away? (Screen display, I mean--the unit is still intact, the green laser still flickers and it IS charged). Nothing lasts forever, however much we might wish that it would, so is my beloved companion Charge 3 beyond resuscitation ? Second point--I am/was really happy with the Charge 3 and the info that it shared with my LG G4, which is, admittedly, OLD. Well, so am I, and I still function. When I tried to substitute a 'new' Charge 3 for the old, faded away unit, my phone informed me that I needed a 'firmware' update. Is that possible, or do I need a new (in this case, Android) cell phone ? If so, how squeekin' new ? I would prefer to get a 'firmware' update, but I have no idea how to go about it. Finally, I appreciate any and all of the kind people who are 'out there' to help folks like me that you are unlikely to meet, but I want to say thank you for myself and others, anyway.

@Cap10Thomas   Firmware update refers to the Fitbit tracker, not the phone.  Just follow instructions on the phone to update the tracker.

Johnny Row, I am grateful for your response. Unfortunately, my LG G4 screen was blank, and there was an instruction at some point which indicated that the Android operating system had to be 8.0 or higher. Did I misconstrue (or misstate) that point ?  So it remains: is my 'old' Charge 3 a portion of history, or resuscitatable? Any further thoughts, sir ?

@Cap10Thomas   I'm confused about your phone screen being blank, but telling you that you needed a firmware update.  It sounds like multiple issues.

In any case, I'm not knowledgeable about this.  You would probably be better off starting a new thread about your issues rather than adding it onto the end of another topic, so people would be more likely to see it.
