Charge 3 won't hold the charge

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My Charge 3 stopped holding a charge a few days ago. I used to be able to go several days, even a week, before needing a charge. Now I can't even go 1 day. It was plugged in overnight so when I wore it yesterday I assumed it would last 5ish days. By the time I got home it was telling me it was at 6% battery and I needed to plug it in. To test it, I plugged it in and when it hit 100% I took it off the charger and set it on my dresser overnight. I woke up this morning to it at 58%. Do the chargers go bad (my charge 2 never had this issue)?

Welcome to the Community Forums @cbeck89! Thanks for already testing your Charge 3's battery life.

I'd recommend restarting your Charge 3. Then, let your device to run out of battery to charge it again. Keep an eye on it to see how the battery goes. You can also see, Can I improve my Fitbit device's battery life?

As a side note, we recommend to charge your trackers via the USB port over a wall adapter. However, it is also possible to charge your Fitbit tracker with a UL certified wall adapter. What may actually cause damage to the tracker's battery (either on a computer or a wall adapter) is the charging time, which if excessive over time may damage the battery and therefore cause quick battery drain or prevent the tracker from charging at all.

Tips to best charge Fitbit trackers are:

  • Use only genuine Fitbit charging cables
  • Use only UL-certified wall chargers
  • Avoid USB battery packs
  • Charge at room temperature

For charging purposes, your charging cable can be plugged into any USB power source, including but not limited to:

  • A computer
  • A Wall A/C to USB adapter, commonly found with smartphones
  • A DC to USB adapter (vehicle power port)

Let me know how it goes, I'll be around.

I let it die completely yesterday after restarting it again and charged it.
I have worn it today and it is dying at the same rate. At this rate it will
be dead within the next 4 hours and has been worn for less than 8 hours so
far.

I'm disappointed that this device hasn't even lasted 6 months before having
battery issues. I would have thought the new device would have more than a
12 hour battery life especially when my Charge 2 that is still being used
by another family member can go several days without needing a charge. I
only use the charger that came with the device and have never "excessively
charged" it - only charging it as the battery gave me a low warning.

I have new Charge 3 that I received for Christmas. For the first week it was holding a charge for multiple days. Unfortunately  for the past two days it won’t hold the charge for more than 5 hours. I have followed all of the recommended troubleshooting by rebooting and then letting it die completely, then recharging. I still have the same problem with it not holding a charge. Does anyone have a recommended fix?

I am very frustrated with the Fitbit charge 3 that I have had for only 8 months. Mine also was holding a charge for 5 to 7 days. Then all of a sudden before the holidays, I had to start charging at once a day. In the past week or 2 it now needs to be charged twice a day so it's basically useless. I only use a Fitbit charging cable. I only charge it by plugging it in the wall. I'm not having an issue with it charging, the issue is with it dying so quickly even if I don't wear it! Having to charge it twice a day doesn't make it practical for wearing it to go out on a walk or out for a whole day cuz it's dying so quickly. If I charge it in the morning it's dead by bedtime. if I charge it at night it's dead by morning even if I don't wear it to bed overnight. Sometimes it's completely dead sometimes it's like 6% or 8%. My old Fitbit that lasted like 5 years was starting to act up and that's why I replaced it with this because I also wanted more features. I want to know what to do about this because it's ridiculous. My daughter around the same time bought a more expensive Fitbit, & has been having issues with hers longer than I have. This is enough to make me never buy a Fitbit again and I don't think I should have to buy one every 8 months cuz this actuallystarted acting up at 7 months. I chose Fitbit over Apple watch because I don't have an Apple phone, and also because I trusted Fitbit because my first one was fine. I love this Fitbit over last summer when I was able to take my walks with it workout on the treadmill, and go swimming with it. And have it track everything perfectly fine. So what's up and why is everybody complaining about this not just me??

My Charge 3 stopped holding a charge a few days ago. I used to be able to go several days, even a week, before needing a charge. Now I can't even go 1 day. It was plugged in overnight, and drained by 11am.  I have tried all the fixes here and on Google, but none have worked.  What can I do?  Please let me know as I don’t want to live without my Fitbit!  I love it too much for us to be apart

I got my Charge 3 around June/July 2019. The band had broken in half and had to be replaced within months. Now, not even a year later, the battery will not hold a charge past 24 hours. None of my settings have changed. All week, I've had to charge DAILY. I do not intend to disable functions because I use them and they are the entire reason I purchased the device. What is wrong with the battery?? I'm restarting. I've charged from a wall USB and computer USB. Doesn't matter.

I’m having the same problems! Have you fixed your issue yet?

I am having the exact same problem that I'm reading from all the responders! I am very frustrated! This was a replacement Charge 3 because my last one just stopped working. I have had Fitbits for years and have had various issues but this is the most frustrating. I am strongly considering moving to a different product considering that mine is not an isolated incident and there appears to be a flaw with the whole product line. That would be very heartbreaking for me, to have to change products, considering that I have a relationship of several years with this product and a long digital history to look back on. I don't want to lose that but I can't continue to spend money on a product that doesn't seem to be reliable.

Not yet.. I've let it run its course (depleted battery until it shut itself off) and done a full charge before use multiple times since I posted. It still only lasts 24 hours. Ridiculous.

I’m only getting about 2 hours before it dies completely. I’d be okay with 24 for today until I can buy something different.

I suppose I should have added that's 24 hours without me wearing it. I'm sure it would be shorter if I had it tracking me.

Im also having this problem with my charge 3. It was totally fine a week ago and now it keeps dying within a day.

I have not even had it a full year

FWIW, my Fitbit quit charging on all but my computer. Does me no good when I travel so I'm just not using it anymore. Support was very helpful but nothing helped. I changed nothing to make this happen. I'm looking at other products. I think I'm done with Fitbit after many years. Good luck.

I've never gotten a response from Fitbit-which says alot about how much
they care about this issue.
Works when I'm wearing it-its tracking my walks or when I'm on my
treadmill Giving me notifications of messages sent to me, incoming calls
to my phone if I'm not by my phone. Alarm buzz goes off every morning.

Still have to charge EVERY DAY. Time of day varies, which doesn't make it
any better cuz if I'm going out for the day to walk or errands I can't have
it at only a low percentage. My big issue is this is ridiculous if I was to
go away on any kind of trip for a weekend or longer & am too busy to keep
charging it. Where's the accountability for a product that was advertised
to go 5-7 days(I'm pretty sure that's what it was)and now lasts one? I
would have bought something else.

I agree that it should last for longer than 2 yrs (mine is 2 yrs 4 MO)
Fitbit knows there’s an issue but only will throw a 25% off a new charge 3. If I could afford an Apple Watch right now I’d switch but I ordered another charge 3.

I got the 25% off offer too, but I think it's time to switch. I think they did something and they know it. They did respond and try to help but it was the usual link to how to charge the battery. I'm so done.

Best Answer

I know…I also wish that there was another brand that made such a slim style that does everything that the charge 3 does. That why I reordered until someone stops making the watches/trackers so **ahem** big.
