Charge 3 won't turn on

Hi there,

I have a new Charge 3 out of the box. I was able to successfully connect it to my account, and when this happened, It asked for a firmware update. I started this, but half way through it failed.

Now, the device will not respond and nothing shows on the screen. If I do the reset on the device, (hold down side button for 8 seconds while plugged in) the smiley face shows up, both then the device does not respond. On removing the device from the charger, nothing appears on the screen, but if I hit the side button I can feel the vibrations as normal.

If it try and sync it to my phone, it can connect to the point where I have to enter the 4 numbers, but no numbers ever appear on the screen of the phone. I've tried to reset the device several times, every time the smiley face shows up as it should, but after that nothing ever comes back to the screen.  Anything else I can do?

It's great to see you here, @allisauce.

I appreciate all the efforts in trying to fix this display issue. If your Charge 3 isn't turning on, I recommend taking a look at this post and follow the instructions provided there.

Let me know the outcome. 🙂

I'm experiencing something similar but my fitbit isn't reacting to anything. No vibrating when plugged in or when doing any of the many and varied ways to reset, just completely dead. To make matters worse, this is the replacement issued when my last fitbit screen failed

Hi there -

So I've tried your solution and here are the results:

After holding down the button for 15 seconds (and when I hit the button I can feel the vibration), I get one of two results:

1 - nothing. The nothing shows on the screen, and the unit becomes unresponsive on the button for 15-20 seconds.  Nothing appears on the screen.  Removing and replacing the unit back on the charging cable doesnt make anything appear.  Afterwards, hitting the side button produces a vibration, but nothing on the screen.

2- sometimes, I will get a progress bar on the screen that advances in 4 segments... Each time the bar progresses, the unit vibrates.  A smiley face appears and then disappears.  Nothing ever appears on the screen afterwards, but the button does vibrate when pressed.

A side note, subsequent to the failed FW uodate I have tried to re-add this unit to my app, and when in 'add mode' it does connect and get to the point where I need to input 4 digits, but the digits never appear on the screen.

The latest firmware has issue that the screen become too dim and you cannot see anything, which a lot of people complain in this community.

Try if you can see anything in complete dark place and see if you see anything
