Charge 3 wristband won't connect

I recently bought a new band for my Charge 3. I pushed the little buttons in and was able to remove the original band with no issues. However now, the top clasp of the tracker that connects to the band won’t grasp.

The little button you push to release won’t pop back up freely, I can manually lift it but it won’t actually connect into the wristband so that it does the proper press and release to grasp the little holes in the band? I’m worried the band will fall apart and I won’t notice. I can’t seem to get the original band back on either! Help please!
