Charge 3 wristbands not attaching

Hi - my wristband broke so I replaced the strap with the spare that came with the original box. It won't connect and pulls off with even the lightest touch. Any suggestions?

To make sure you've attached the band correctly, please press it into the end of the tracker until you feel it snap into place.

If you have trouble attaching the wristband or if it feels loose, gently move the wristband back and forth to make sure it's attached to the tracker.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

It appears that the two angular catches that hold the wristband on at one side of the fitbit are "up" and catch the band. However, the two catches on the other end of the fitbit are flat and do not engage when I try to attach a band. Is there a way to free up the catches and make them rise up?
