Charge 4- Black screen after update

I only got my fitbit charge 4 at the weekend and all was fine.  I got a message to say there was an update which could take about 30 minutes. If only.  It was taking forever and going around in loops so I tried to bail out of the update.  Now I can't reset the device.  I have disabled bluetooth a number of times, forgotten the device in my phone, turned my phone off and back on, tried to reinstall it multiple times but no pin number appears.  I'm really hacked off with this now.  The smiley face only comes on for a few seconds and then a blank screen. Out of ideas now and lost patience a number of hours ago.
