I have just started to pay attention to my breathing rate and am getting pretty anxious about it.  In the health metrics, my night-time breathing rate is usually 22-23.  Everything else is fine.... sleep quality, sp02, hrv, rhr, etc...  when I measure my breathing rate/ respiratory rate during the day, is is slower... about 15.  What does everyone think about the accuracy of BR breathing rate on Charge 4?  Anyone else questioning the accuracy?

Hello @hhaste. Welcome to the community forums.

Thank you very much for the detailed information. At this time, I'd like to let you know that this metric is the number of breaths you take per minute. Your body usually adjusts your breathing rate to help you get enough oxygen. Typically, breathing rate is 12-20 breaths per minute.

Track your average breathing rate during sleep to help you assess your overall well-being. Typically, your average breathing rate during sleep won’t vary significantly from night to night. Factors that can affect breathing rate include age, sex, weight, lung and heart conditions, anxiety, and fever.

In addition, I'd like to let you know that this feature and the metrics within this feature are not intended to diagnose or treat any medical condition and should not be relied on for any medical purposes. It is intended to provide information that can help you manage your well-being. If you have any concerns about your health, talk to a healthcare provider. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, call emergency services.

On a side note, your post will remain open if someone else would like to provide additional information or suggestions.

See you around.

My usual overnight breathing rate is 12-13 bpm (fitbit Charge4) - pretty much the same as actual daytime rate. However occasionally I have had what appears to be an anomalous doubled reading of 25 bpm. This is happening more often - 4 times in the last two weeks. None of the other measured parameters varies significantly from the usual readings. Is this indicative of an emerging issue with my fitbit?

I had the same thing happen! Generally BR is  11-13. Once in awhile it jumps to 23. It scared me even though my sleep scores are always mid to high 80s. I am fit. Resting HR 55-58. Deep sleep it’s 42-44. HR in the day is low. I feel great, energetic. HRV fluctuates but generally 55 plus. I am almost 57.

I hope it’s the Fitbit and not me! Lol

Hi,

I've just had the same issue. All my other readings - heart rate, HRV were normal and on the low side after sleeping 7hrs. However my breathing rate spiked to 25bpm (normally around 15bpm). Hoping this is a fitbit anomaly and I am not about to drop down dead?

-------

Hi Jooz,

Did you ever get a response on this? It's happened with my FitBit Inspire 2? Has it been happening recently? It's been worrying me that something is wrong hut all other measurements are fine?

I have not had any response. I has happened 4 times in the last 4 weeks - two of those on successive days. the other measurements were all within normal range. I just checked back and there has been a very occasional high one before, and a couple at this time last year. We are heading in to colder weather where I live and I have chronic bronchitis so it could be that I guess, although I would have thought that if breathing fast I would have higher heart rate too and that doesn't happen, so I tend to think it is a fitbit anomaly - maybe sleeping in an awkward position.

This has happened to me three times in three weeks, two of them have been this week. My rate is usually 11-13 and I’ve had a 24, 23 and an 18!  It freaks me out but everything else looks really good. I’m very fit, 54 and this is so unusual! I’m debating over asking my doctor because it seems silly to base a complaint on nothing but a random number. I feel great. On the fence……… love/hate with this Fitbit.

I had the same experience this week. It said my BR was 24, next night 25. I was freaked out by it but felt better when I saw this thread. Last night it was back to 12, my normal reading. Not sure what was going, a glitch?

I've had the same thing happen twice this week! All my other numbers are normal, but I had a night where it read 26 and another at 24. Usually I'm around 16 bpm when I sleep and about the same when I'm awake. It totally freaked me out but I'm glad to see others may be having the same glitch and I'm not about to die.

This just happened to me. I went back for the past couple years and mine had never been high. The last 2 nights it’s been 24 and 23 and it’s scaring me.

Have had same issue. 2 nights ago it showed my breathing rate as 6.  Pretty sure that is an erroneous reading as it usually is in the 12 to 20 range. I don't worry about it as my O2 sats are always around 95% sleeping.  I have learned not to trust some readings as many things can cause false readings. It relies on the change of HR when you breath in and out. If you are on a beta blocker or other meds that regulate your pulse rate it seems to not be as accurate due to a low HRV.

Mine has shot up to 24 the last 2 nights and a few times before that. Otherwise it's 12 or 13. I think that it's a fitbit problem.  I'm not doing anything differently.

Likewise with versa 3. My resting breathing rate has doubled from 10/12 to 18/21 over the last  8 days. All other values seem normal. This has not occurred previously over two years of use. I also note that the app does not notice this 100% increase and just changes the normal range to include the new values, in my case currently 10/21. I wonder does it have something to do with no value days eg: 4 double values, 3 no values and one normal value over the previous 8 days. Did anyone else notice no value days?
