Charge 4 battery dies with no warning

Like others, I seem to be having battery issues with my Charge 4. The battery lasts less long than in the early days, but it still lasts a couple of days without charge. The infuriating thing is that the displayed battery charge seems to have little to do with when the device dies.

Multiple times now the device has died while I was out for a jog or walk without warning. Two of those times I am positive the displayed battery charge was around 50% and once I got home and plugged it in, after the smiley face the battery percentage displayed was in the mid-50's.

It is making it very difficult to determine if this is a software issue or just they typical lessening of battery performance over the lifetime of the device. I have, of course, restarted the device multiple times since having this problem.

It's good to see you back in the Community @TacoT.

I appreciate all this information that you've shared about the inconvenience that you've been having with your Charge 4.

Before considering other options, please make sure that you've followed the steps provided in this articleIn addition, try to perform a restart following the steps listed here below, this has been useful for other users experiencing something similar:

  1. Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
  2. Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable must lock securely with the port.
  3. Make sure the button on your tracker is aligned with the button opening on the charging cable. You’ll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you see a battery icon on your tracker’s display.
  4. Press and hold the button to restart your tracker: Press and hold the button on your tracker for 8 seconds. Release the button. When you see a smile icon and the tracker vibrates, the tracker restarted.

The battery can last up to 7 days; because battery life is affected by use and other settings, actual results may vary, but the battery shouldn't be draining only after one or two days. Keep in mind that some of the feature that can drain the battery more rapidly are:

  • Built-in GPS (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 4 day when using this feature regularly, or up to 5 hours if you use it continuously).
  • Always-on display (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 3 days when using this feature).
  • Using an SpO2 clock face (Fitbit points out in this article that you may have to charge your Fitbit device more often when collecting SpO2 data).
