Charge 4 is tracking my steps inaccurately

My fitbit charge 4 has recently decided to have moments where after the step counter has been reset at midnight, then it decides to add stupid amounts of steps. 

Last night between 2 and 4am my fitbit added 33094 steps. It was on charge last night so didn't do anything. 

This happened a couple weeks ago too. I had increasing higher steps over a week (after midnight reset was complete). I did a reset on my device then after the 2nd day of it happening, but it didn't fix the issue. I think it was a total of 4 or 5 days before. 

 

Is there another was I can fix this issue?

I appreciate the troubleshooting steps performed.  I'd recommend you check these articles, How accurate are Fitbit devices?, How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity? and How do I add, edit or delete Fitbit data and activities?.

 

Also you can follow these steps to restart your device.
