Charge 4 logged 58 flights of steps.

Recently my charge 4 has been registering many more flights of stairs than I have taken. As an example, today shows 58 flights of steps. I may have done. Done 12 which is only a fraction of what it's telling me I'm doing. How do I correct this?

Thank you,

Heidi Jones

Hi, @Justheidi , the altimeter on the Fitbit is extremely sensitive - it has to be in order to detect a rise of only about 10 feet on a flight of stairs.

You should be aware that it doesn’t just count stairs - if you are walking outside on a hill, or even gentle slope, it will count a floor equivalent for each rise in 10 feet - even if the slope is quite gentle.

Unfortunately that sensitivity means that it is also susceptible to interference, especially during changeable weather.  It detects very small (as mentioned above) pressure changes in the atmosphere.  During calm, stable weather it works remarkably well.  However, during periods of changeable weather (particularly falling barometric pressure) it can record a lot of false floors. This is most likely to happen during changing seasons (autumn and spring) and is most common during windy weather.

For the same reason it can be affected by wind, or even a sudden door slamming.

Unfortunately, there really isn’t a fix for this.  Many Fitbit users take this metric with a grain of salt and don’t worry too much when extra “floors” come in due to environmental reasons.

It can be reassuring to know that “floors” are not taken into account when Fitbit reports calories burned.

I am sorry not to have a better answer for you.  Welcome to the forums!
