I have been having the same issue. I last got a sleep score with all of the sleep stage information on Monday. Bennie if you figure it out let me know and I will do the same for you!

This happened to me last night

I deleted the sleep log and reentered it manually and the sleep stages showed up.

Showed up prior nights - however every morning I have to adjust the log because it has only picked up either the first half of the night or the last half - not once a correct log.

However - attention Fitbit! We should not have to do these constant manual corrections!

Rarely happened with my Charge HR

That actually worked thanks So much.

bit of a pain in the rear end if we have to input manually every day but I’ll take that over nothing!

I did what Gayblaze suggested and input sleep log manually and it worked.

hopefully I can find a way to get sleep score without having to do that every day!

The same thing happened to me. I’ve only had my Fitbit charge for about a week – the first two nights I got sleep stages, then no stages since (just sleep patterns). I’ve logged it with tech support but haven’t heard anything back yet. A bug fix would be great!!

Best Answer

I’ve had mine about ten days and it logged sleep accurately with sleep stages only one night so far. Every other night its only reported half the night (either ending and my early morning bathroom trip, or not starting until after it) with no sleep stages. Restarting/resetting has had not effect. Where are you Fitbit support?

Hello guys, I hope you are doing fine.

I appreciate the information provided and the efforts in trying to fix this sleep stages issue. There are a few scenarios where you might see your sleep pattern (which shows your time asleep, restless, and awake) instead of sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

Let me know how it goes. 🙂

Hi AlejandraFitbit,

Thanks for your reply. I found that once I stopped logging “begin sleep now” in my Fitbit app the problem resolved and sleep stages are showing once again. I’m a little bit uncertain as to why this function exists at all?! However, it’s great that the problem has resolved for me for a few nights now!

Cheers,

Alejandra, your answers do not work for me. And it looks like Fitbit has been giving the same responses for months, if not years, and the problems persist.

I wear the same fitbit on the same wrist in the same position every night, and I generally go to sleep in the same position. Yet nearly every night FB misses about half my night, either recording from bed time to my bathroom trip ca 2-3 am, or only starts tracking after the trip until morning. About half the time what it does track has no sleep stages. when I manually adjust the time I went to bed and the time I awoke, it will the display sleep stages BUT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THIS In fact my old Charge HR nearly always tracked the entire night. WHEN are we going to have an update to fix our problems?

Those are great news, @TreeBreeze. I am glad to hear that you are able to see your sleep information again. If there is anything else we can help you with, do not hesitate to post it.

@Gayblaze, are you pressing or selecting something to track your sleep? Are you letting the tracker sync properly in the morning to see your results? Are you seeing any type of error?.

Keep me posted. 🙂

I’m so irritated. Imminent was calculatung just fine until the new firmware loaded. I have worn it all the suggested ways. So much so that you can see lines from its “snugness”. I can’t find where to do a complete factory reset. This is terrible. I restarted it, re downloaded the app, at this point I’m about over this product and that’s super disappointing. Is there an update coming or should I just return this?

It's great to see you around, @Isettc.

I understand how are you feeling and appreciate all the efforts in trying to fix this sleep stages issue. As recommended previously, please take a look at the article: What should I know about sleep stages? and make sure you have followed the steps there.

I will catch you later.

I did follow all instructions and tried all different forums. I have since returned my Fitbit and will look to different companies for my investments.

Alejandra, I bought a Fitbit Charge 4 primarily to track my sleep and am having this same problem that others have seemed to have for some time now, the sleep stages are not tracking.  I have attempted the reset suggested by BGibb here: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Charge-4/Charge-4-not-registering-sleep-score/td-p/4189879/page/2.  This worked for one night, but it doesn't seem appropriate for a user to have to reset their unit on a daily basis (and not something recommended by Fitbit, right?).  I have indeed been using the manual Begin Sleep Now and will not do so tonight.  However, this is highly unintuitive and I am wondering what purpose this function serves if you don't have to do it (and especially if it is purportedly causing a problem).  Can you please answer this question that was posed previously?  Honestly, after reading through tons of posts on this same problem, it seems that Fitbit has not been able to address the problem.

I am going to not use the Begin Sleep Now tonight and if my unit is still not working, I will be returning it to Costco for a full refund.  Nevertheless, I think the Community deserves an explanation of why your programmers have developed functionality that you suggest does not work.

Alejandra, I appreciate your sincere desire to help and I hope you have the capability to report our issues to the software development management. You can tell them that I and I assume everyone else, do not use the start sleep button, wear the device in the same place at the same level of tight/loose all night long, and don't go to bed with a severely depleted battery. I think I may have had two nights so far that it tracks the entire night's sleep without editing or deleting and entering manually.  I have noticed that "estimated oxygen variation" flat lines for those periods the device is not tracking sleep, and editing to reflect the actual time sleeping will report sleep stages but does NOT revise that graph.  Oh and BTW one night I took the device off in the middle of the night and laid it on the dresser. In the morning, I edited the sleep report as I normally do - and after processing it reported a full night of sleep stages!! It can read them from across the room? OR is this reporting a hoax?

This worked for me! I haven't had a single sleep score or sleep stage data show up since I got my Charge 4, but it's nice to know it's a software glitch and not a hardware error.

Fitbit, please fix this! It's the main reason I bought the device!

I first posted about this glitch in May. Four months later no fix from fitbit. Most nights it only records sections of my night - before a bathroom trip only, or after a bathroom trip only, or a few pieces of the night. Every morning I have to edit the sleep log or delete and enter manually. Doesn't matter how loose or tight I wear it. However - one night it recorded and reported the entire night - it was not on my wrist but on the lingerie chest! Makes one wonder how real this "premium" feature is....

I got my fitbit charge 4 yesterday and tried the sleep tracker

It did not track my sleep stages!

Best Answer

I tried that but unfortunately it didn't work for me.  I have an open support ticket with Fitbit and have been waiting since September 30 for the "special team" to respond to my escalated ticket.   I'm thinking seriously of buying a Garmin Vivosmart 4 if I don't hear something soon or receive a replacement that actually tracks sleep and stairs properly.
