I upgraded to a charge 4 this week, my charge 2 was recording my sleep score fine but 2 nights in and I’ve had no luck with the charge 4, very disappointing since I’ve signed up to premium. Can you advise what the problem is?

This is a known issue that Fitbit/Google refuses to acknowledge. They should be replacing the defective units without the need to return them. They can see from their end the units are not working and their troubleshooting is not solving a thing. This should be all the proof they need.

My Charge 4 logged sleep stages reasonably consistently for six months then last weekend it just stopped showing any stages at all, without me changing anything. I've tried numerous resets but each morning (five days now) it's the same, just start/stop times. Luckily this isn't an important reason for me having the thing but this is on top of other problems I've had since buying it. For example I still can't get GPS info. I've only kept it because the basic functions work ok but there's no way I'll ever give this company money again.

Well it's now mid-way through March and still no resolution. Here's the latest update of when I do see sleep stages and as you can see so far in March it's been zero. It seems to be getting worse.
A Google search will show this has been an issue for years, going back at least until 2018. There are pages of results and it's not just with the Charge 4. And now Google wants to "watch us sleep" with their Nest display. I think not. . .

Well, I just received the latest update 2 days ago ( 1.100.34) and still no joy.
It seems that Google/Fitbit is more interested in adding more "bells & whistles" to drive sales but has zero interest in fixing bugs.

I updated and mine is working perfectly, never any problems. Everything is working as it should be. Enable HR for sleep stages.

HR is and has been enabled.

Here it is the end of March 2021 and this issue is still happening. My Charge 4 has been working fine, even after the severely messed up update—until 4 days ago. The first night it started recording sleep as usual then stopped when I woke to go the bathroom. I ended up having to manually adjust my sleep log since it didn’t record the remainder of the night. All the sleep stages and other associated data was there once I did the manual adjust. The next night the device didn’t show that I slept at all. So once again I manually logged my sleep and all the data showed up. I rebooted my device hoping that would get things back to normal. No luck—still had to log my sleep manually the next night and last night.
I do not use the start sleep button, I wear the device in the same place at the same level of tight/loose all night long and don't go to bed with a severely depleted battery.
I have up to date firmware, app version, and iPad IOS.

My Fitbit losses the sleep stage memory from all previous nights going back months, then after a few days, it appears again

I have found that wearing mine higher up on my wrist has worked for me

Had anyone found resolution here? Mine worked for the first two weeks then nothing for the past month and a half. Searching all over the internet, have followed the directions to a T and still nothing. My HR icon is blacked out completely and sleep is the basic graph. I have to be honest it's pretty annoying seeing the same copy and paste message from the support team. Your help section does nothing to fix the problem.

Mine is doing the same thing. Off and on registration of deep and REM, MOSTLY NOT. Have complained and worked with support at least 10 times. Received a new Charge 4 under warranty with the outdated firmware which recorded all stages of sleep, then got a notice to update it to the new version and it worked a couple of nights and now 3 days it doesn't work and then it does. I've rebooted, uninstalled the app, reinstalled it, changed arms, changed the sensitivity and still inconsistent. Anyone have any solutions? I've had this problem off since I received for Xmas gift in December 2020. Then it started acting up at the end of February after a firmware update. Now the same with warranty replacement.

@Phil2252- similar to my issues. I purchased my Charge 4 in July of 2020 and it worked great for a couple months. Then in September after an update it would not track sleep stages consistently and each month it got progressively worse. I've gone through the troubleshooting steps you mentioned but support is still unable to correct the issue.

Worked the first day I got it and never worked again, its been a week and seems this is a issue for a while. Going to just return it and not deal.

After hours of searching the internet I finally found resolution. Somehow the unit itself turned off HR monitoring. To fix this, on your unit, Scroll right until you see SETTINGS, then scroll down until you see Heart Rate and switch it to ON. I got a sleep score last night for the first time in a month. This should be wayyyyyy easier to find then it was. Hope this helps some of you.

I wish that was the issue with mine but it's not. Mine is set to "on" but I still have more days without sleep stages than days with sleep stages.
There are a lot of people complaining about sleep stages which leads me to believe it's a software problem on Fitbit's end. Either that or they made a lot of defective Charge 4 units.
