This has clearly been a problem since the start of the Charge 4. I miss at least one nights sleep tracking a week, sometimes two. My sister who has a charge 2 never has this issue. It’s a disgrace that Fitbit (a faceless company making millions) is not prepared to stand up and tell us what’s wrong and provide a solution. This is one of the main reasons for the purchase in the first place!!

App automatically updated on April 29.  Since then, sleep data and health metrics are no longer working...Any suggestions as to a fix for this?

I agree with you 100%.  We should all be getting what we paid for based on their advertising claims.

It failed again last night.

Do Fitbit care that they are letting down their customers? What seems strange is that earlier products seem to function more effectively. I wonder how many of us have these malfunctioning Fitbits?

I have same problem. The FitBit Charge4 worked fine for a couple of months and then, for no reason I can fathom, it suddenly stopped recording sleep score and heart rate. So there is absolutely no data in the Health Metrics section. This is really disappointing having upgraded from a Charge 3 to Charge 4. None of the trouble shooting suggestions by FitBit are any use to me. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I feel your pain.  The exact same thing happened to me.  I purchased my Charge 4 in July of 2020.  I worked perfectly the month of July and only missed sleep stages 2 days in August.  Things started to go downhill in September where sleep stages were not recorded 8 days, 22 days in November, 26 days in December, 20 days in January, 18 days in February, 31 days in March and 16 days in April

Fitbit support suggested I send my Charge 4 back to them and they would then take a look at it and advise next steps.  Sorry but that is totally unacceptable to me.  Why should I be inconvenienced and without a device that I'm using as a watch and to track steps/activity?  I would have been more than happy to send it back after receiving a functioning replacement; not before.  I guess they lost sight of their customer.

Thank you MPhilly.  I have just checked my settings on device as you stae above and noted that my Heart Rate was OFF.  Ha! I have changed it to ON and I'll see what happens tonight.  (I have noticed that its quite easy to inadvertently alter the settings, as previously my screen suddenly became very dim and I could not read it at all in sunlight, however, when I was able to check, the dimness was set to Dim not Normal. So an easy fix. Lets hope the Heart rate is as easy to fix.)

Thank you so much - it worked (which is more than my post did earlier when I could not upload as i tried to paste your comments) However, such an easy fix.  I suggest any one with this problem to CHECK YOUR SETTINGS on your Charge4. Check to Heart Rate is ON.  Mine had somehow turned off. As soon as I turned it on yesterday it worked. I had a sleep score, HR, bmp and zone minutes again!  Thank you!

November, and this just started happening for me.  I am on my second Charge4 (first one lost touch capability after a year) and my sleep stages have not logged in five days.  I have done everything listed here, including resetting the device, and nothing.

Anything new anyone knows about?

I was getting sleep stages once again over the last few months and then. . . BAM!  November starts and 3 days in a row with no sleep stages.  I'm not doing anything different so it has to be something on the back end on Fitbit's part.

Now almost 18 months later - I now have a Charge 5 - which means a different sensor and a different strapping mechanism - and still the same issues tracking sleep. Fitbit support??

After reading the many posts on this issue, I checked all the settings on my Charge 4. Heart rate was off, so it couldn’t generate info on sleep stages. I turned it on and it is back to showing sleep stages. Maybe it got turned off when it updated (??)

Good luck to all!!

Yeah, FitBit mods have been censoring my posts about this issue. Seems they don't like it when people let them know that this is their problem and it is being ignored. On FitBit recommendations, I upgraded to the Charge 4 from the Charge 3. The issues still continue with no fix that is viable. But, they are liking deleting my quest for a fix. They keep marking this issue as answered, but nothing is fixed. Huge amount of complaints over this issue.

I am also having issues with my Fitbit registering sleep stages. This past week it hasn’t registered them at all. I have worn my Fitbit on the same wrist/ position since I’ve had it. I’ve cleaned all the sensors and restarted it. I still don’t get sleep stages. This is very frustrating considering I have insomnia and try to track how bad it is on certain nights. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Since an update I did about a year ago my sleep hasn’t been tracking properly. It’s been a lot worse in the last month and sometimes doesn’t pick up that I’ve slept at all or only records the first half of my night then cuts out randomly about 3 or 4am.

Sorry to not be able to help but sadly I've had to just put up with this and the other failures of this expensive waste of money. Fitbit just take your money then ignore all problems. A "customer support" service which depends on customers helping each other just gets the company of the hook. If you do get a response from a moderator all you get is standard responses, usually ignoring everything the customer has said about already trying all the useless "solutions" then they ignore the customer reply. All I can do is advise friends and family to never buy Fitbit.

Mine has not recorded random odd nights but hasn’t been missing too often over the past year.

Replaced my Charge 3 with a Charge 4 because of the terrible software issues and the 4 is even worse. Nothing being done by FitBit to correct the issue. Pushing the latest Charge instead. Just a 100% disappointment and pure frustration. FitBit just keeps blaming the user (to loose, to tight, low battery, and on and on) but it is all smoke and mirrors. Their programming is not working and continues to not work properly

4 days ago I entered the wonderfull world of Fitbit with a Fitbit charge 4 , mainly to keep track of my sleep .

I have obstructive apneea and together with my CPAP machine I was recommended a sleep tracker to match the data on the cpap. After 4 nights ... The sleep tracking is basically useless ... No stages no nothing

After the first night I started reading to see if I can fix it . And to cover all bases, I took my wife's charge 4 aswell and wore them both:

Non dominant hand lose fit , dominant hand tight fit on night 1

Non dominant hand tight fitt, dominant hand lose fit

Same results...no stages no nothing ... I am giving them 3 more nights and if the results are the same...it's a double return

beginning to think these are a load of rubbish, as my wife and I each have one and they frequently have this problem
