Charge 4 stopped auto-syncing to my Fitbit app

A few months ago, the auto sync to my phone seems to have stopped working.  I must manually go in the app and swipe down for it to sync.

I've tried the obvious things.

I have the latest android app and firmware

reboot phone

reset bluetooth

reset fitbit

reinstall app

batt optimization already disabled for fitibit

Seems like some sort of bug in either the app or watch firmware after one of the updates.

Hi there, @eng3. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for trying to troubleshoot this issue before posting here. I understand where your concern is coming from.

As @JohnnyRow has pointed out, data automatically syncs to the Fitbit app throughout the day. Each time you open the Fitbit app, your device syncs automatically when it's nearby.

It might be that the Bluetooth connectivity is not good enough. Are you using another device to sync your Charge 4 or just your Android phone? May I know the model of your mobile phone? Please make sure it meets the requirements listed here.

In addition to the steps you've tried, you can also try the following:

1. Remove the Charge 4 from your phone's Bluetooth settings and in the Fitbit app.

2. Restart your Charge 4 one again.

3. Turn off other Bluetooth connections when not in use.

4. Plug it into the charging cable and open the Fitbit app.

5. Set up your Charge 4.

Test it out and see if the issue persists. If it does persist, follow the steps provided here Why won't my Fitbit device sync?

Hope that helps!

How often are you expecting it to auto-synch?  It won't necessarily have synced every time you glance at it.  Or are you giving it a day or 2 to sync on its own?

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Expectation, at least daily.

It use to do it more than hourly I think.

Now it's never, if I forget for a week, it will be missing a week

As @JohnnyRow has pointed out, data automatically syncs to the Fitbit app throughout the day. But it does NOT, that is the issue I am trying to point out in this thread.  He also says Each time you open the Fitbit app, your device syncs automatically when it's nearby.  Yes it does this so I know there are no blue tooth connectivity issues. AGAIN, the issue is that it does not sync without manually triggering it to sync.

I am using a Huawei p30 pro. It is compatible. I have the app excluded from the battery optimizations and auto launch. It has worked ok for years and only recently stopped after one of your app updates.

I've tried all the troubleshooting and resetting steps but it makes no difference

I too have not had my fitbit auto sync in the past few weeks. They have clearly removed it from the charge 4 app, because the device settings are not even available for the charge 4 in the android app.  I have seen as many as 10 days of blank pages from my fitbit app in a row, only to watch it take 24 minutes to sync and populate the app with my data from two weeks worth of not syncing.  What gives, Fitbit????  Please don't cut/paste that same answer above for the 3rd time... This is a KNOWN issue with your product.

It has not auto-synced for me for over a year.

It actually even has trouble manually syncing.  It usually takes a very long time and I have to do it daily.  If I wait more than 24hrs, it has a low chance of succeeding.  I usually have to reboot the fitbit and the phone a few times and it might work.

They've definitely done something to the app to make it stop supporting the Charge 4 or at least not as well.

Ofcourse NONE of the issues the charge 4 had when I bought it have been fixed.  It will still randomly freeze up.  Replacing the watch hasnt helped.

I have had similar problems with my Charge 5 and my Samsung Android tablet. Here is something I just stumbled on that might have helped:

Go to Settings/Apps

Click on Fitbit

Click on Battery

If the "Allow background activity" toggle is greyed out, click on "Optimize battery usage"

Scroll down and look for Fitbit. If you see it, click on it. Then when you return to the previous screen either "Allow background activity" will be enabled, or you will be able to enable it.

As soon as I did that, my device synced with the tablet and logged the 22 minute walk I took this afternoon. Maybe now I will not have to manually sync every morning to see my sleep statistics!

UPDATE - I just walked from my home office to my family room, holding the tablet in my hand - the step count updated every few seconds. Looks like this really has fixed the problem for me.
