Hi there, @joan20lyn. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Charge 4 before reaching out.
While reading your post I was wondering how you track your exercises? Do you manually start them directly on your Charge 4 or you let SmartTrack to detect them?
Please know that most Fitbit devices automatically recognize and record high-movement activities through the SmartTrack feature. To start, the default duration settings of your Fitbit device is 15 minutes long. However, you can also choose which activities your device tracks automatically, or change the amount of time needed to record the activity. To do so, please follow the next steps:
- Tap the Today tab, then tap the Exercise tile.
- Tap the gear icon in the top right.
- Tap an exercise, and adjust the duration or turn off Auto-recognize.
You can learn more about the SmartTrack feature in this link How do I track my activity with my Fitbit device?
Keep in mind that you can also use the Exercise app to start and stop a workout. For more information, see How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?
Last but not least, if you're an Android user and you also use MobileTrack, please note you can't use MobileTrack in addition to a Fitbit device. For more information about MobileTrack, see How do I use Fitbit MobileTrack?
If you have MobileTrack linked to your Fitbit account you'll need to remove it in order to set up the Fitbit device and get back on track. For instructions, see How do I set up my Fitbit device?

As I said before on this very topic your troubleshooting steps do not work. The failing to pick up exercise has been going on for years not just with the Charge 4 but with every Fitbit I have owned going back to the Charge 2.
