Charge 4 won't stay unlocked

I thought I read somewhere that when using the Fitbit wallet, the device will need to be unlocked once every 24 hours or after the device has been removed. When I first used it, for accessing the London underground, it worked perfectly. But when I came back to the US, it wouldn't stay unlocked. I have to enter the PIN almost every time I want to use it -- even if it was just unlocked less than 30 minutes prior. I have tried it with the band very snug and with it looser, to no avail. 

Any ideas as to why it's locking after such a short time or how I could get it to stay unlocked like it's supposed to?

Depending on your card, you could be prompted to enter your pin, before any payment. 

It's all a security matter.
