Charge 4 won't stop exercises

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My exercise tracker on the Charge 4 won’t stop. It will pause, but not stop. It said to press the button again. When I press it on the face it continues to run. When I press it on the side it pauses and starts again. My Fitbit is less than a week old.

Thank you for this response.  I went through the steps that you provided and as provided in the manual on p 36.  I have hit the home button.  However, I do not see "finish" on the screen.

I can get it to pause, but I cannot get it to stop.  When I follow the instructions on the screen, it simply starts recording the exercise.

To compensate, I have restarted the device.  However, it usually does not record the workout.

I have used the app on my phone to track the exercise, but I prefer to use the fitbit itself b/c I use the phone for listening to podcasts, etc.

I guess I am a novice and need additional assistance.  Could you please advise on what to do. Thank you!

I had issues with stopping the exercise as could Pause the exercise but not stop it and the instructions are unclear.

Instructions: Press the left once button once and then a second later press the left button again gently and Finish will appear and hit this.

Ian

My charge 4 is the same ,  it takes longer to try to turn it off when I get back from a bike ride than the bike ride itself.

Not impressed.  Pressing the button on the side twice does not work.

Thank you, that worked for me x

I'm having the same issue as another user.  When I press the home button (after pausing), I do get the Finish option maybe 30% of the time.  The other 70% of the time it takes me to the Sleep/DNS screen.  After futzing with it maybe 10 or 20 times, I'll FINALLY get the Finish option.  ARRRGGGH!  Hopefully they'll fix this in a future software update.  I love the tracker, but this is driving me crazy!!

Your answer and the user manual is incorrect.  I just tried on my fitbit and had the same problem. Luckily, another user included the proper instructions which worked for me on 5/1/20.  I'm not sure why you ignored this users comments?  Press the button twice.

Yes! That works, but the instructions didn't say that anywhere!

That is what the instructions say, but it doesn't work. You actually have to press it twice.

This doesn't work. I have a new Fitbit Charge 4 and you cannot get the a screen up which says Finish. I have been trying to get it to work for a couple weeks now.  It's so annoying I have had to go back to my old Charge 2 with the cracked screen because at least you can start and finish your exercise on that one. Is there a plan to fix this on the Charge 4s?? I have tried everything mentioned on this forum to get it to stop/finish and it's still going from a walk I took a week ago. Pushing the button on the side only pauses it - there is no Finish option.

I got my Charge 4 as a bday gift in Nov & have the same problem! How did you fix it?

Best Answer

Thank you. Yes it did help. It should say that in the directions to press twice 🙂  I have 13 hour workouts because of this..lol

I’ve been frustrated by this also. The Fitbit user manual is either poorly worded or incorrect with respect to using the Fitbit to track your exercise. Very frustrating, indeed. I just found the answer, after MANY tries. When you want to pause your time on the exercise/run etc. You press the side button once. An arrow inside a circle appears and says “paused”. Press this on the screen to re-start. [I really wish the writers of the manual would have differentiated clearly between the main side “button” and the so-called “button” that appears on the screen! - why not call the side “button” the “side-bar”?]

So, if you want the exercise function to stop, double-press the side button fairly quickly (I found that I needed to use my thumbnail on the button/bar to get the double-click to effectively work), and Voila - the FINISH “button” on the screen appears!

Hope this helps - works for me anyway.

Note: Running in the cold weather requires you to take off your gloves to do any effective “pushing” of any functions on this watch!

Thank you so much! That works (& I've written in to suggest a change in the user manual to make it clearer). I'm glad I didn't have to return it! 😅

Is this supposed to be funny? No user manual included. My Charge 4 came a few hours ago.

You have to download the Charge 4 user manual from the Fitbit website... you are correct in that no user manual came with the Charge 4. I keep the user manual on my desktop in PDF form to refer to. With the above issue about stopping the running exercise, I did not find the user manual to be correct, so it was by trial and error that I found out how to stop the running function.

Double tap the side button is the only suggestion that works.

It goes straight to DND and Sleep. The only way my Charge 4 ends exercise is to double tap the side button.

Update:

It’s not intuitive at all.

So how do I stop it? I really hate this Fitbit. It’s not easy to figure anything out and I no longer own a computer. (My iPhone 11 is my computer now.)

that doesn’t work

The Fitbit is garbage. I got it as a Christmas gift and I have the same exact problem you do! It’s more difficult to use than an iPhone or a computer. Horrible app that explains nothing. Give me a refund and they can have it back.

Update:

Nope, but thx!
Will you buy your Fitbit Charge 4 back? It is not user friendly and is worthless to me. Can’t get the timer to stop after completely a walk or a run.
so what did you do?
Good luck cuz you’re going to need it. Even after reading the manual on-line, you’ll be frustrated. I set the timer for a walk I took. When I finished it’s supposed to shut off after 10 minutes of no activity. Then it says to click twice on left side of watch and you can then stop it. Not so! My advice, return the watch ASAP. It sucks!!
So what did you do?

So annoying all I wanted was my heart rate, steps and sleep to be read since I needed to upgrade my alta HR...The cool thing I noticed is it measures oxygen. Not get all fancy with this exercise, Should have just gone with the Inspire.

Mine seems randomly hit and miss with the process.

It's frustrating as I can spend five minutes trying to stop a walk recording !
