So I have a new go me Fitbit HR and can’t figure out how to reset it.  I tried to use the directions on the website but it wasn’t working at all, just sending it into stopwatch mode

It sounds like you just didn't have it on charge.  It has to be connected to the charging cable and the cable charging.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
