Every accessory for any fit bit is usually less that 1/2 the money spent if you shop diligent on eBay or amazon. Never buy a used Fitbit. Always look for a boxed one. The charger is extremely important to each Fit bit. There’s not much of a difference in the essential data needed in each one. If you’re seeing complaints about reading texts or receiving phone calls then that person needing a Apple Watch or should be using there phone anyway. I currently wear a charge 2 boxed new, I bought on eBay for $32

Yes Ebay is not on the recommended Retailer list so it does not have a warranty

Fit bits are so cheap, I’d never recommend the warranty ever. It’s a cheap gadget . iPhone warranty and Apple Watch warranty are highly recommend though. One thing to note ,the fit bit cannot be worn while surfing or showering. I only wear my fit bit at work or exercising cardio. My friends say salt water destroys and fit bit

Which model Fitbit do your friends have? Many Fitbit models, as per Fitbit, should not be worn while in water. Your Charge 2 is one of these that only supports an acciodental drop in water.
