Exercise tracking in app - no heart rate data

Hi!

I just upgraded to the Charge 2 (from a One) and am trying out the different exercise tracking options.

I'm used to tracking a run from the fitbit app on my iphone.

My question is regarding the heart rate tracking.  If I track my run from the Charge 2 I see my heart rate data in real time during the run (on the Charge 2 screen) and a summary afterwards in the fitbit app.  But if I track a run from the app I don't see any heart rate data - during the run or in the summary afterwards.  I assume the Charge 2 is tracking heart rate during the run regardless, so why doesn't it show me that data in the app as part of the exercise summary?

As I run without my glasses, I find it easier to see my run stats in large font on my phone than on the small Charge 2 screen.  But does this mean I can't record heart rate data for my run unless I track the run from the Charge 2?

Thanks for any help!

Robyn

So, got the "hang on tight, we're cleaning things up for you" message today - aka software update in the iOS app.

Yep, as expected, no change to the HR in tracked exercise issue. No idea what they cleaned up.

6 weeks and counting... I'm beginning to think that Scott Adams has a direct video feed from Fitbit HQ providing material for his Dilbert series.

When the 4th band in 2 years fails on my Charge 2 (oh, and it will within 6 months - they are utter rubbish!) bye Fitbit. Unless I get something better for Christmas. Or before.

PS - Fitbit 1 star rating given on App Store btw...

I wonder if this "bug" is something that was moved behind the premium paywall?

That's a very good question! If it is true, I might as well just throw away my fitbit now because its utility would become zero.

So this is it, the final nail in the coffin. Fitbit is not doing anything about this, no reply or communication to say the company has made this decision and its final, that function will not work any longer. Poor business skills from this company, you will lose clients this way.

I don’t think they care about runners or people tracking other exercises. Their goal is probably to pump out some “entry-level” trackers for people who are only getting into it and who don’t yet know about Garmin, etc..

Does Garmin have a product similar to Charge 3?

They do; slightly more expensive but worth looking into - Garmin leans towards more “serious” runners - some of the features are quite tempting...

Is anybody else having the issue of their exercise not syncing, I had a session this morning and it does not appear on the app, Fitbit employees, community? Last session was yesterday, but nothing today

Just re-synced now and it finally comes through as an average of 98bpm, this Charge 2 device is getting more and more hopeless. Time to start shopping for anything but Fitbit, total let down.

Once again, app did its “whoa” refresh and still no change to logging hr data when tracking exercise. Went for a ride today and tracked through the app. No hr data showing in the exercise.

This is utter rubbish Fitbit - after 2 months still no fix. How many programmers work there, one??

Or do you simply not give a **ahem** about your users after you have made the sale? Seems like it. Show us I’m wrong.

I was one of the first who posted about this. I’m done with Fitbit. I’ve just about saved enough for an Apple Watch which I’ll be getting in about a week or two. There’s no BS from Apple like this. I had been with Fitbit from the beginning. What a shame.

A friendly reminder to y’all: please don’t forget to leave a one star review for Fitbit app.

Yes, I did. I received ridiculous follow up, as in, "can you send a
screenshot of your problem" - Fitbit never intended to do anything about
this. They do not care about the thousands it has affected, only about
promoting the "premium service."

Yeah they also replied to me with some generic message about how much they care, etc etc

I concluded a month ago, that they have no intention of restoring HR data
to the app. When people ask me if I recommend Fitbit, answer is no, I do
not.

Yes, many of us have given up, too.

Hahahahahahaha. What a joke - we are certain that Fitbit does not care.

I would love to swear but this is a forum and good people should not be subjected to the vulgarity i would like to share with Fitbit. Went for another workout this morning and still nothing, in a nutshell, it went from No HR in exercise app to not picking up an exercise session with just the heart rate as it did for a while. The manner in which they handled this issue was totally unprofessional, with no replies and no feedback, simply no communication. Goodbye Fitbit, I will be purchasing a new device, i will not even bother looking at the Fitbit range.

If you use this workaround you should get the data that you want, this workaround is pretty close to the old method, just a little more work.

In the app, go to Exercise Shortcuts and add the exercise or exercises that you want to track. If you turn on Connected GPS you will get GPS data from your Fitbit. Now you should be ready. On your Fitbit select your exercise and hold the button in until it vibrates to start the exercise and do the same to end the exercise. I also use the Track function for the real time data and voice cues. If you don’t want to use the Track function you will still get GPS data from the Fitbit as well as the HR data in your exercise summary.
Only thing I don’t like about this method is that you have start and stop your exercise from both your Fitbit and phone at the same time.
