I know the charge 2 isn't waterproof but is there any way I can track my swimming? thinking if I get the pool measurement and time my swimming activity? I'm new to this whole fitbit thing!

Hi everyone and welcome to our new members.

As some of you know, the Charge 2 is water-resistant, which means it's rain-proof and splash-proof and can stand up to even the sweatiest workout. For this reason, it's not recommended to wear it when swimming or showering. On the other hand, you can always manually log any water activity in your Fitbit account to get credit for your efforts. See this help article to learn more about what Fitbit devices can track your swim activities.

I wanted to inform you that I'm going to close this thread from further comments as we'd like to keep threads on topic or tailed to a specific topic to avoid confusion. I'd encourage you to create a new thread in the Help Forums if you have any other question, that way you can have more chances to receive help from the Community members. Hi @raquelscatt, welcome to the Forums! The Charge isn't waterproof it is only water resistant, which means they are rain-proof and splash-proof and can stand up to even the sweatiest workout. However if you would like to track your swimming, and you are using an Android device, please follow these instructions to manually log that activity:

  1. On the Fitbit app dashboard tap the Exercise tile to open your exercise history. This is the tile that says "Track exercise" if you haven't worked out today.
  2. Tap the stopwatch icon in the top right corner.
  3. Tap Log Previous.
  4. Adjust the activity details and tap Log It.

Hi @Joycemd, it is great to see new faces around the forums! Woman LOL Oh! Please try not to use your Charge 2 in the shower, it might get damage, specially because of the heart rate. 🙂

Sorry to revive an old thread, but my girlfriend's band is starting to come apart. I have sent a message off on Amazon and not heard anything back yet. Could you please advise on what to do. This fitbit is less than a year old! 😞

The flex range is the tracker you want for swimming

I have been wearing mine in the shower every day for months, and have been swimming whilst wearing it probably 50 times and it's working fine.

Not a good solution, I realise. But it counts steps as I swim.

You mean you have been swimming with your Charge 2 and have not experienced any problem?

I got my Charge 2 a few months ago. At first I didnt care if it was waterproof as swimming wasn't part of my life until recently. Have been thinking about the possibility that the Charge 2 may survive in swimming pool. Please kindly share your experience, much appreciated ! Thanks in advance.

@Maxkwok I have to be honest and say that I didn't even read the manual
properly - I assumed that water resistant and waterproof were
interchangeable. This thread was the first time I realised!

I can't vouch for your equipment, of course, but I have been swimming
infrequently (once every 2 weeks or so) and showering (twice daily) in my
Fitbit Charge 2 for over 6 months now with no issues whatsoever. I even
press the button in the water to check the time. I almost never take it
off, except for charging. I've just got back from a 2 week coastal holiday
where I went swimming at least twice a day for 14 days - again, wearing the
Charge 2 every time.

However, I don't know how useful this will all be, unfortunately. The issue
is that the app does not support a swimming exercise type (understandably),
so you can't manually start the activity tracking like you can with running
and cycling. It still tracks steps, but it doesn't seem to identify an
activity session automatically, like it usually does with my cycles (even
if I don't track them manually, they frequently show up in my daily
summary).

Elsewhere in this thread, it seems that people have been adding swimming
activities from the website. I think that's still the only way to go. I
don't bother doing that, personally.

Hope that helps!

Thanks a lot , @gaberosser

Your detailed reply solved the question I had.

So far being able to wear it during swimming for timekeeping should be good enough for me now, but still will keep an eye for how to manually add swimming activities tracking .

Thanks again for the information,  have a good day !

Call the Fitbit customer service number.  I called yesterday as the band on my Charge HR is breaking and was told that up to a year, they will replace with a new one as long as you have proof of purchase.  Because mine is over 1 year old, she said there would be no replacement but they would offer a 25% discount on a new tracker.  Give them a call!

@Maxkwok, you really don't have to wait to find out how to manually log an exercise.

Look brlow and click on the word "Help", this takes you to Fitbits interactive -Searchable help docs. Type in manual and you will be taken to How to manually add an exercise?

Also there is a search function in the forum, and would also give you the answer in seconds.

That is true @gaberosser, the term water resistant must be followed by a requirement.  It could be water resistant of 0, meaning do not go near water. All the way to water resistant to 300 meters, take it deeper than your body can stand.

On the other hand, there is no legal definition for the term Waterproof since at some depth it will fail, and can not even be used (legally ) when refferring to rain jackets or boots.

Hey @Toph2005, it is great t o see you around! Robot Very Happy We don't recommend you to wear your Charge 2 in the shower or swim with it because the altimeter and the heart rate can be messed up, maybe not at the first time, but with a little bit of water that stays inside, they might not lot longer work.

Hey @faithbuilder, it is great to see new members aboard! I would like to give you a hand on this, but first I would like you to tell me what the exact issue that you have with your Charge 2. Remember that this tracker isn't water resistant, so you can't swim or even shower with it, so that being said, there are certain activities like swimming, that you can't perform with this tracker.

Thanks for trying to help my friend @Toph2005. 😉

Have a nice day!
