Fitbit Charge 3 frozen

Hello, today, my Fitbit Charge 3, which was perfectly running for a week, was frozen. Restart first didn‘t work. Black screen, nothing happened. It did not show the charging symbol. Then I connected it to my MacBook. Suddenly it woke up. So what will happen when I don‘t have a MacBook to wake up my Chaarge 3?

By the way, this happened 1 day after I installed the new firmware. A bug?

OMG - people stuck on the Screen Wake/Notifications screen. This is so dumb. When you swipe left and go to a timer or stopwatch or other app, you (like me) probably assumed you swiped right to get out of the app, or as mentioned in this and other threads at the FITBIT help site, you held the button on the side down and got the the Screen Wake face, pressed it a second time and got back to the app face you had tried to use and went back and forth then gave up and tried to reset.

Well, all you have to do to exit one of the apps is hit the side button twice, quickly. How could it not say in the 52-page manual that you "double click" the side button to exit an app? How could the Fitbit people not recommend that instead of different reset voodoo?

Thanks for the response.

By frozen, I mean that absolutely nothing that I did caused a reaction from the charge 3. The screen would not move up, down, left or right. It was stuck on the time screen. Pushing the side button did nothing.

All the instructions, both from the manual and the help desk, did nothing to change the frozen time screen.

jw22taylor I was having the same problem. The screen would not move. I tried for over a day to reset it like people said here. Finally I just held the button for like a minute and it reset. Now it's working and I did a firmware update. I guess keep trying or ask support to send you a new one.

Thanks for the info.

My charge 3 did start working again. After pressing the reset button numerous times for a variety of durations including the 8 and 15 second recommendations, I left it and stayed away for the night and some of the following day. When I decided to check it again, like magic it was working. Like you I have also updated the software.

I have crossed my fingers, toes, arms, legs and a few trees in hope that it will continue to work.

My charge 3 too easily moves from screen to screen.  Now can’t get back to “home” (clock) screen.

This literally happened to me too!  Plug the fitbit and hold the side button (keep it plugged).  You will should see the smiley face.  I literally did not let go until I saw it and it took about 30 seconds.

Hope this helps!

How long do you hold the side button down to restart it?

It worked for me after about 20 seconds, but I heard from others needing to press the button for up to 1 minute.

Sadly there does not seem to be a “time” to hold the button. The time varies greatly!

I did everything as instructed for much of one evening. Holding the button for what seemed like an eternity was only one of the things that I did. Finally I gave up and went to bed. The next morning the charge 3 was no longer frozen!

Good luck!

Now my difficulty is how long it takes to sync. Many times it will not sync for two or three days.

My Fitbit Charge 3 suddenly froze and I tried to click and hold for a 10 seconds nothing happened. I tried to plug on my charger still nothing happened. I looked at my apps if it’s connected, it’s not connected and tried to connect still my phone apps can’t connect it.

I've tried all this and my screen still wont move. It was fine until I charged it this morning. Now it just stays on the clock face no matter what I do. I received it as a Christmas gift so it's only a month or so old. What else can I do for this?

Hi. Same happened to me.
If you plug your charger into your computer, hold the side button for 15
secs then release. Eventually, you will get a smiley face and it will reset.
So far so good for mine. Frustrating when the fitbits are only a month old.
I hope this isn't going t be an ongoing issue.
Good luck

The 'button' is the one that is on the side of the charger.  While you have your charger plugged into the charger, you also push in the button on the side of the charger and hold it until a smiley face shows up on the display.  🙂

Correction:  The button is not on the charger.  The button is on the actual Charge-3 device, left side.  With the charger connected, the button is still accessible through the hole on the charger. Press this button for up to a minute until the smile face appears.
