Help!! My screen is almost completely black. It looks like it’s fading and I’ve already tried the holding the side button when charging. Any other ideas or what this could be?

Welcome  to the Fitbit Community, @Lorena12345. I´m sorry to hear your Charge 3 screen is fading and thank you for letting us know that you´ve tried holding the side button when charging.

Could you please confirm that you´ve restarted your device by following these steps:

  1. Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
  2. Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable must lock securely with the port.
  3. Make sure the button on your tracker is aligned with the button opening on the charging cable. You’ll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you see a battery icon on your tracker’s display.
  4. Press and hold the button to restart your tracker 8 seconds. Release the button. When you see a smile icon and the tracker vibrates, the tracker restarted.

Keep on visiting the forums.

Hi Andrea,

Thank you for writing back. Yes, I’ve tried it that way plugged in. It doesn’t work. 😕 I’ve tried it everyday hoping it would work.

Thanks for getting back to us and for confirming that you have tried  restarting your Charge 3 everyday without success @Lorena12345.

I understand how frustrating this could be and please try a long restart:

  1. Connect the device to the charging cable.
  2. While the device is plugged into the charging cable, press and hold the button down for 15 seconds.
  3. The device turns on and shows a battery icon. Two vibrations occur: first a short vibration, then a medium vibration.
  4. The device turns off.
  5. The device turns on and shows a progress bar and short vibrations occur. The progress bar completes. Note: A total of 7 short vibrations occur.
  6. Remove the device from the charging cable. The device shuts down.
  7. Important: Plug the device into the charging cable again.

Catch you later.

Ok I tried that but can’t really tell if a progress bar shows because that part of my screen doesn’t turn on. Attached is a picture of the only part of my watch that turns on

If you see a black or blank screen on your Fitbit, the first thing to try is a restart or a forced restart (also called a long restart.) What is this? Restarting your Fitbit forces it to reboot–and often fixes problems like a black, blank, or non-responsive device.

Will

Can you give instructions please on how to do a long restart. It’s really difficult to see a screen if it’s completely black so I don’t know what response I should get

Yes I spoke to someone who couldn’t help me. He advised I would receive an email for further within 24 hrs and never received anything. So I was hoping someone knew how to fix it on here.

I have the same issue with the fading screen. My unit is bought last 2019.  And it's quite disappointing that it didn't last long.

My only hope (and follow up question to the mod) is the fitness tracker should work? even I don't see anything in the watch interface like in the picture @Lorena12345 have posted earlier.

Thanks  for getting back to us and for the clarification @Lorena12345. Please write again to the person that told you that you were going to receive an email.

@Abi_R,  welcome to our community. Thank you for your question. Some devices keep working even when the display doesn't turn on. Which steps have you followed in order to turn your Charge 3 screen on?

This worked for me.  It's still very dim,  but at least i can see enough now to set an alarm.

Andrea no of your suggestions work to fix a black screen

how can you think it’s possible to see a bar or charge icon when you can’t see anything other than black 🙄
