Fitbit Charge HR Won't connect to phone

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I bought a Fitbit charge HR, but it won't connect to my phone. It is giving me the code, but when it put it in my phone it keeps saying "connecting". I've tried deleting the app and restarting my phone but it is still not working.

Have you checked that your phone is supported by fitbit at www.fitbit.com/devices ?

Best Answer

It's nice to see you around the forums @Honeyizzy, hope you're doing great! Smiley Very Happy Did you check the list of supported devices that my friend @SteveH shared with you? If your phone is listed, but you keep having issues when paring it, I'd recommend double checking if your tracker has enough power to complete the setup process.

If you keep having issues when pairing your tracker after checking its battery, usually a missing requirement is the cause. Therefore, I'd recommend checking these requirements before moving on to the troubleshooting steps:

  • Note that you can't set up your tracker from your device's Bluetooth screen; you must open the Fitbit app and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • The software on your mobile device is up to date.
    • iOS—Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
    • Android—Tap Settings > About Phone or About Device > Android Version.
    • Windows 10—Tap or click Start > Settings > Update & security.
  • The Bluetooth setting on your mobile device is on. To find it:
    • iOS—Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
    • Android—Tap Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
    • Windows 10—Click or tap Settings > Devices > Bluetooth.
  • (Android only) Double check the following information about your mobile device:
    • Your device doesn't have a set up or sync issue listed on What should I know about using the Fitbit app on my Android device?
    • Power Saving Mode is turned off on your device. This mode frequently causes the device to disable Bluetooth.
    • (Version 6.0+ only) You have location services turned on and the Fitbit app has permission to access your location.

If you're still unable to set up, try the troubleshooting steps below:

  • Make sure that your Fitbit app is up-to-date (iOS 2.39, Android 2.55)
  • Log out of your Fitbit app
  • Force quit the app
  • Restart your tracker 3 times in a row by following @AlejandraFitbit's directions
  • Turn off the Bluetooth
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes
  • Turn on the Bluetooth
  • Log back into your Fitbit app
  • Try the setup process again

Keep us in the loop, hope these steps help!

I've tried these steps over & over but it still wont connect. I don't know what else to do.

Well, all I can say is after following the exact steps, it worked. If that didn't work, it's defective, demand a replacement or fix. 🙂

Hey there, it's nice to see you around @MillieMagic @Fitgus! Sorry to hear that you're still having issues when trying to sync your Charge HR.

Can you please let me know which mobile device are you using to sync? Have you checked if they are included in our list of supported devices?

If the issue persists after checking that your phone is compatible, please go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone and remove the tracker. In the list of Bluetooth devices you'll see the Charge HR and next to it, this symbol "!". Hit the symbol and it will take you to the next step, once you're there select the option that says "Forget this device".

Once you've made sure about that, go back to the Fitbit app, go to the "Account" option in the upper right corner and select "Set up a Device". This should start the setup process for your device.

If you can't get started with your Fitbit device, usually a missing requirement is the cause. Carefully review the requirements below:

  • Note that you can't set up your Fitbit device from your phone's Bluetooth screen; you must open the Fitbit app and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • The Fitbit app needs to be updated
  • The software on your phone is up to date. To see if an update is waiting to be installed:
    • Android—Tap Settings > About Phone or About Device > Android Version.
  • The Bluetooth setting on your phone or tablet is on. To find it:
    • Android—Tap Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
  • Double-check the following information about your phone or tablet:

If you're still unable to set up, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Turn off Bluetooth on your phone; wait 10 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  2. Try setting up your device again.
  3. Restart Fitbit Charge HR  once again.
  4. Try setting up your device again.
  5. If you can't set up after a restart, reboot your phone or tablet (turn it off and then back on).
  6. Try setting up your device again.
  7. If you can't set up after the reboot, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Fitbit app.

I'm so glad to hear you're back on track after following my suggestions @fretnutt. Thanks for sharing the good news my friend!

Hope that helps, let me know how it goes guys!

I am having the same exact issue as a commentor above. I am trying to connect my charge HR, but it won’t connect. I put in the 4 digits that pop up on my fitbit and then “connecting to fitbit” pops up and the circle spins, but it never progresses past that. I have tried all of the steps above, and I am using an iPhone X so it’s a supported device. Ive tried these steps 4+ times with no luck.

so because my charge hr is retired it will never connect in the fitbit app????????

if it will never connect to the app on my iphone x i am really sad that i spent the money to get a charge hr to upgrade from my old flex.    I have been trying all day and all night to get it to connect.

I have followed the steps MarreFitbit has given and still nothing.  After I get the #, I enter it in the app and it just cycles with "connecting" I am now on 10 mins still waiting for it to connect.  Again I have followed your instructions, my phone Samsung Galaxy 6s has latest version of software, fit bit app has version 2.83.  This is beyond frustrating.  I now have a useless chunky pink wristband.  Please have this resolved or send me a refund for the months I had left on it ($30.00), because lets be real you all designed these to self destruct after 1 year, or send me a credit for a new one when you all get this sync issue resolved.

I took my wife's Charge HR after mine died and I had to factory reset it before it would connect to my phone. Then it worked.

Hope this helps!

Although my Charge HR synced with my Huawei 5C phone for months, since I recharged it, I have had problems getting it to sync. Consequently it shows the time incorrectly. Spent half a day with tech team trying to resolve (kept getting disconnected, very annoying). Unfortunately I have no alternative suitable devices to test so today I bought a Gogi HR tracker for a fraction of the cost of a Fitbit and guess what? It paired with my phone with no problem at all.

I have the same issue.  My fitbit was connected an just stopped syncing a few months ago.

I have:
A fitbit charge which I have had since 2016, and which has worked on a number of phones, including my current one.
A Samsung Galaxy A3 2018 which has the most recent update on it.
The fitbit app on my phone which is also updated to the latest version (and which used to connect to my watch).

I have followed all the instructions in that I have:

Turned off my bluetooth
Logged out of the app on my phone
Force stopped the app
Turned my phone off and then back on
Reset the Charge HR 3 times
Tried to connect my phone to my HR again but get as far as putting the code in and watching the circle with "Connecting" screen for about 20mins.

IT WILL NOT CONNECT.

Please can you let me know what else you suggest aside from taking a hammer to the bloody thing and finding a fitness tracker that reliably works and will not just stop after 2 years.

Best Answer

Hammer it.  Mine is still not completely fixed.  Having to hard reset it every few times is really annoying.  And no response from the fitbit experts.  So yes, hammer it.

+1 for smashing it with a hammer. Of all the tech I have ever owned Fitbit is by far the most frustrating. Every few months I have to factory reset to get sync to work again. I have spent most of the day trying to get my charge HR to work following the instructions above dozens of times. Just like I did in the Autumn and again back in the Summer. It never ever works without a factory reset which deletes all the data. Absolute pile of c**p. I wont ever buy another fitbit again.

Best Answer

So after finally factory resetting my Charge HR I managed to get it to connect for a whole half a day before it would no longer sync or connect.

So this has to go.  Having a fitness tracker that you cannot actually connect to anything is pointless.

Is this only a CHARGE HR issue, or is it a FITBIT issue?  I need to know this before getting another tracker because I am not getting another Fitbit f I am going to have this challenge with all the models.  So can someone from Fitbit let me know if the other models are having the same issues.  And also I would appreciate if they could let us know why this is an issue with the Charge HR (which it clearly IS judging from the comments on this thread and the other threads about the Charge HR not connecting).
