Can anyone help. When I recorded my exercise last year and I was running, the dashboard would give me the km's I had run but now it seems to be gone. What happened?

I am new here but have experienced this too. I have always used gps tracking on cycle or running and was pretty impressed when the fitbit gave me a very close distance result to the cycle computer etc. I thought that as (by chance) I had my iphone in pocket that the fitbit had synched to it and borrowed its gps tracking (as it will do this and send gps straight to Strava if you treat it as a specific exercise). However I think it has given me a distance rating when I didnt carry my phone - so cant figure how it knew how far. I have been trying to find a decent explanation about how the device works and have to say that its incredible that it gets any result at all when I cycle as I only really rest hands on handlebars not like the fitbit is moving much. So its either the smartest tech or magic! Only had fitbit for 2 weeks but think its great - and thats coming from someone who has owned 4 heart rate monitors and a couple of decent cycle computers.

Hi, @AngeC, Fitbit recently removed distances from tracked activities. If you are recording your runs by holding the button at the start and end of your run, it will sync to your dashboard as a "workout" . Previously it would also show you your distance, but following the recent update, if you would like to see your distance you will need to "categorize" your workout as a "run" , "walk" or "hike". If you take that extra step it will show you the distance.

Thank you for that! I was driving myself mad trying to figure out what was going on and didn't think the KMS would be disestablished. I have defined my workout as a run and it shows me the distance although it seems that the distance has been removed from any previous runs completed. Shame.

I can only see how to do this on the dashboard on my computer. Is there a way to define the activity as a run on the app on my smartphone?

All the aboveboard isn't consistent with my experience of the Fitbit - I went for a run last night and a while after the run it updated the automatically created file with good heart rate info and a distance - I didn't start and stop the device - I just ran - have I missed an update to software?

It must have been in an update as otherwise wouldn't have been there and then gone again. Your lucky!

This is not an update that you want.

yeah CheqeredKhazi .. the new update detects if you're doing exercise and has an option (that is on by default) that's listed under your device as "Automatically Recognized Exercises" you can go in and tell it to ignore each option of it too

Hi, I tried to categorise my activity and it is still showing 0km. It was always ok..showing distance and pace and map during the workout. But after I press finish...the distance will disappear and show as 0km. Any help here?

Hi, @Honeybabe , I think your issue may be different from that discussed on this much older thread.

Are you an iOS user?  There is apparently a bug, following a recent update, in which iOS users are not having distance or calories saved on their exercise record.

The engineering team is aware and working on a fix asap.

I hope this helps.  Welcome to the forums!
