Fitbit showed 19000 steps during sleeping

This morning I checked my fitbit on waking and noticed it had recorded 19000 steps during the night whilst sleeping. This was during a 15 minute period. I've rebooted and it's still showing. This was a reconditioned device I received from Fitbit as my previous one broke. Any advice?

If it's a reconditioned device then try a full device reset - that might fix it.  It could be that it's got the wrong sensitivity settings etc.

I had 7000 steps during the night within a 15 minute period. It's only happened once at this point so hoping it was some kind of fluke. In order to get it off your total steps for the day, act like you are adding an exercise and then select "driving" as your activity. Mark the start and end times with the period of time where the steps were erroneously counted. It will at least remove them from your daily step count.

Happens to me at least once a mounth. Thougt it was because the watch wasn't stabil during the night. Placed it on a stabil table, but still happens time to time.

Tried to restart but doesn't help.

Seems to be a factory error.

Thanks for your replies.  After doing a factory reset and speaking to customer service for other fixes, it continued to add steps in my sleep and when not wearing the device, also not tracking sleep or workouts correctly.  Wore it briefly in the shower and packed up completely after 2 months of receiving it.  Now being sent another one.  Lets hope this refurbished one works!!
