GPS drops out when resuming a paused activity-Charge 4

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Quite often I will track a cycle to the gym or pub, via my fitbit. I will then pause the activity for a good hour or so. Then I will resume activity and head home/wherever.

Once I get home and view the activity, it has only gathered data for the first half of the activity and then the second half is completly flat-line.

E.G. Tracked a cycle to/from somewhere. it has the correct total time of 1 Hr 42 mins, the first half is fine, but the second half has no GPS tracking, a speed of 0 for that whole half.

This is very disappointing as I integrate it with Strava for all the stats/segments/heart-rate insights and I expected significantly better integration and features.

I assume it is to do with not getting GPS signal back after pausing for so long? Is there a way to check this before I head off for the return journey etc as it has done this everytime I have tried to record a 2-legged trip.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @doomfreak777.

Thank you for the information provided.

To try to resolve the issue, please restart your Fitbit Charge 4 by following these instructions.

In addition, when tracking your activities with GPS please follow the recommendations in this article in the menu "Why isn't GPS working on my Fitbit device?".

As an alternative, you can stop the activity instead of pausing it and when you retake your journey start a new activity.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,

I have restarted my Fitbit and also checked all the GPS options/location settings/privacy settings etc etc on bith fitbit and my iPhone, all of those are set correctly.

I tried again today, cycling to the gym and then pausing my activity. I did my workout for about 45 minutes, during which the fitbit told me it lost GPS signal (even with my phone being next to it at all times and dynamic GPS turned on).

The problem comes when resuming my fitbit cycle for the journey home as there is no option to manually get the fitbit to look for GPS signal when restarting an activity??

The only way to get it to connect is to stop the activity completely, and start a new one (then it connected to GPS in 5 seconds).

I don't want to split my activity into 2 legs as I prefer one leg for the statistics and segment tracking when it syncs to Strava.

I can't believe there is no option to manually search for GPS signal when re-starting an activity. Surely it should be searching at all times for GPS or is there some background coding which means it won't bother search for signal again once lost?

Has this problem been resolved?
I cycle to many places on holiday and this problem always occurs when I enter a building.
My holiday logs are scattered because of this problem.
I would like to hear about this progress.

Hi,

same issue happened yesterday to me. I paused the activity and after restarting, I did 2 hours more of training and, and looking at the band I noticed that some statistics was strange.

After saving and checking the result, I realized that after the pause, the rest of the training created only a straight line between a few minutes after I paused it and the final point.

This looks a bug to me. Where should we notify this bugs and/or ask for a solution?
