I tend to use my FitBit Charge 4 for local walks. So when I am doing these walks I may stop for refreshments for coffee or other liguid refreshment and food. So I as I sit inside the FitBit tells me that it has turned OFF GPS. However does it turn it back on when I emerge again? Or does it then continue using my step distance? On longer walks I tend to use my Garmin GPS Etrex20 that tracks in GPX which is easier to pull into my map package etc.. That tells me that it has lost signal if say I shelter in a church porch with no signal. But it just picks up the GPS when I emerge. Maybe the FitBit turns off GPS and keeps it turned off to save battery. I would love to know the algorithm of this function. If it does stop GPS can you turn it on again? Thanks for all the help from this forum as a very new user of FitBit

In my experience, if the fitbit loses GP for more than a short time, it doesn't restart the GPS connection. I've had this dring runs through areas that have a thick overhead canopy of leaves.
If you're stopping somewhere, maybe try pausing your walk activity during your stops (you have to restart the activity). or try using the connected GPS mode with your phone's GPS.
Here is another nice article on this.
