I haven't biked for awhile because of a knee injury.  Now, starting again, I can't remember how to turn on the timer for my bike ride.

Hey you @lwgordon, welcome to the forums! Woman Wink I'm happy to hear that you're ready to get back on track on your bike routines. I'll be glad to collaborate in this.

First-time setup on iOS:

  • First, make sure you can track your run, walk, or hike when you're out of Wi-Fi range:
    1. Open Settings and tap Cellular.
    2. Make sure Cellular Data is turned on.
  • Next, ensure that your GPS can continue tracking when your phone is locked:
    1. Open Settings and tap General.
    2. Tap Background App Refresh, find the Fitbit app, and make sure it is turned on.
  • Lastly, make sure your phone can identify your location:
    1. Open Settings and tap Privacy.
    2. Tap Location Services and make sure it’s turned on.
    3. Find Fitbit in the app list and make sure it's set to While Using the App or Always.

First-time set up for Android

  • Make sure your phone can track your activity when you're out of Wi-Fi range. This is usually achieved by making sure Cellular Data is turned on.
  • Make sure GPS can continue tracking while your phone is locked.
  • Make sure your phone can identify your location. This is usually achieved by enabling Location Services within your privacy settings.

Now, when you're ready for tracking your biking routine:

  • On your tracker, press the button until you get to the Exercise screen.
  • Tap to find the exercise of your choice.
  • Press and hold the button to start the exercise. If you see a phone icon at the top, that exercise offers connected GPS and your device is connected to a GPS signal. If the phone icon has a line through it that means your tracker is not connected to your phone or your phone is not connected to a GPS signal. If the phone icon has an animated dashed line next to it, that means your device is trying to find a GPS signal.
  • During your workout, tap your tracker to scroll through your real-time stats or check the time of day.
  • To pause your workout, press the button. Then press the button again to resume the exercise.
  • When you’re done with your workout, press and hold the button to stop recording. You’ll see a flag icon and a congratulatory message.
  • Press the button to see a summary of your results. With each button press you’ll cycle to a different set of stats. You can view your exercise summary one time.

Syncing your tracker stores the workout in your exercise history. There you can find additional stats and see your route if you used connected GPS.

Or simply hop on the bike and start riding, Fitbit will detect your on the bike and log it.

I did my first ever pavement and road bike ride with a fitbit charge 2.  On the activity, it has sporadic steps over the period I was on the bike.  I thought the activity would show bike instead.  I was expecting it to detect me on the bike.

@boot-it the steps come from the bouncing around of the handlebars. If your ride was at least 15 minutes, the default unless it was changed, the ride should have been detected. You could also manually start the bike mode.

It was a 20 minute ride and I set the default to 10 minutes. I assume it
should show up as a bike activity however nothing showed up except steps on
the total for the day.

How can this be the accepted solution if the only choices of exercise are hike, walk, or run?  Which one do you choose when riding a bike?  It seems a little silly.  Why do you not just have the choice to start a bike ride so that there are no random steps inserted in the middle?

@cjonasson have you read the solution, and the question of how to track a bike ride?

Since we are in the Charge 2 hardware forum this question is about tracking the Bike Ride with the tracker and not the Fit it app, for as you say this can not be done in the app .

The solution is about how to use the Charge 2 to track a bicycle ride.

If your interested in tracking a bike ride with the Fitbit App. you might want to search the App board..

Another step would be to add a vote to the request .

Track Cycling on Mobile App with GPS

Hi thanks for your reply. If you look at the solution, it gives step by
step instructs to track a bike ride but within the instructions it gives
the same three choices as what is on the app - walk, run, hike. That was
the discrepancy I was pointing out.

Your Charge 2 may be setup to manually track up to seven types of exercises from a list of nineteen, bike ride is one of types exercises.

Let's look at fitbits help documents .

Hello @AmeetPrabhu. most bike rides should be automatically detected if you do nothing.

To get a map you will need to have your phone with you and manually start the bike recording on your wrist, as explained in the solution posted above. Is that what you are doing..

Best Answer
Yes I have been doing the same but still can't get the map

@Buck1982 I'm not sure which all instructions have been tried, or what type of phone you have.

Hello and thanks for listing all the steps to have the Fitbit track bike bides and include a map and distance and other stats. I have an iPhone 7 plus ios 13.4.1 and have taken all the listed steps (my phone was already set up correctly) but my Fitbit still does not reliably track with a map and distance. It used to for my walks and bike rides but the last time it did was April 4 (it's no the 22) and I have done walks and rides (including today) since. Today and all other days the unit said it was connected. I have also turned the phone on and off and turned Bluetooth off and back on (got this info from other Fitbit threads) and it doesn't make a difference. I no longer get a map or the distance. Where I ride is unobstructed from buildings and there is not a problem with the phone's broadband coverage or GPS. Please let me know what else I can do. Thank you.

I am frustrated as my Fitbit doesn’t track my biking.  I tried to follow the “best answer,” but my Charge 2 tracker does not include biking or any other exercise options.  Thus, I can’t set it to bike mode when I am biking.  What am I doing wrong?
