How to turn off Preview of Text Messages but keep receiving notifications on Charge 3

I wasn't receiving text messages on my Charge 3 but after some troubleshooting, I found that if I turned on Preview for text messages then the text messages starting showing up on the Charge. However, I do not want the preview of text messages to show up on my phone. Is it possible to turn off the preview of messages on my phone but keep receiving them to my Charge?

Without knowing what phone, most likely you will not be able to @acarleenb 

On ios with preview turned off, the Operating System will not send notifications that Fitbit can intercept. 

Android use to have a setting to override this
