I'm awake but Fitbit thinks I'm asleep?

I'm awake but Fitbit thinks I'm asleep... For example, last night I was awake from roughly 11:30pm to about 3 am, (to the kitchen, bathroom, etc. a few times and laying in bed, but wide awake listening to podcasts).

This also happens when I go to a movie theater. Fitbit shows I was sleeping the whole time I'm watching a movie.

Since Fitbit uses heart rate to determine sleep, does it need to be calibrated, or dialed in better based on my personal heart rate? If so, is that something I can do from my dashboard?

I have this same issue. I haven’t been sleeping properly for weeks yet it keeps recording saying I have light deep and rem sleep when I know I’m awake. I was hoping to be able to show my doctor the lack of sleep but  it doesn’t reflect that. I’m a little gutted to read a lot of supporting comments that it isn’t accurate and nothing seems to be done about it

I agree the fitbit sleep app is a waste of time, fitbit replies are also patronising to try and offset the inability of its watch to record sleep.

I often go on the Internet using my phone after waking but fitbit cannot realise that my phone is in operation, how can I be asleep ? I may then have breakfast and then sync my watch and it tells me I woke up 1 minute after eating breakfast.

Me too. I woke up at 4:45am when the alarm went off. Got out of bed at 4:51am and went to my computer and clocked in to work at 4:58am but Fitbit Charge 4 says I was asleep until 5:02am. ??? Then I looked at yesterday. And it said the same thing for yesterday. But I clocked in at 4:58am so obviously not sleeping at 5:02am. What gives? How do we fix this?

This is also happening to me now with the Charge 5

That is disappointing. I was hoping they would fix that. My wife (I established this acct in her name) uses a charge 3 and it cannot tell when she is awake or asleep. (It would make a very poor Santa) My Versa does a fair job and I was hoping to upgrade her watch since the charge 3 also has problem syncing with the blue tooth. My versa does not have this problem, over several phones. she has changed phones also and still the syncing problem. Crap. thanks for the feedback.

Do you have a low resting heart rate?  This has happened to me since day one of owning a Fitbit. I’ve gone through the verse of one, two and now onto the three and it continues to happen. I’m curious, what is your resting heart rate? Mine is 40 to 44bpm and when I’m sleeping it sometimes dips lower than that. I’m wondering if this is why Fitbit thinks I’m asleep. If I sit still my heart rate dips to around 42. As a sidenote, this totally throws off the Zone Minutes per week as I reach them in the first half hour of the first day of the week because my heart rate comes up to a normal range and it thinks I’m exercising
