Bright green light stays on and runs down battery. How can I get it to off?

I have been having the same issue. I’ve complained to Fitbit but they appropriate changes have not been made to their software. Even when I have the HR monitor set to off on my versa, the green LED light blinks continuously. Why? Is this being used to track us? Not cool....

Lots of people also complaining about this same issue on the Alta HR forum. Fitbit's response is to avoid acknowledging that there is an issue, and to stick to their standard script: "it's out of warranty, but we'll give you a 25% discount on a new Fitbit."

Hi, @CEOL , on the Versa, even with the HR detection turned off, the lights will flash briefly if the tracker is touched or moved (or even if it detects nearby vibration). This is not to track you! This is because the Versa has the potential to be used for payments, and therefore it is important to detect whether it has been removed from the wrist (in case it is lost or stolen). Whenever it detects that it is not on a wrist (lights flash and pick up empty space...), if there is a card stored it will require a PIN before it can be used.
Of course if you have not stored a card on your device then this will not be relevant to you, but I must admit that I find this reassuring. I know no one can use the card on my Versa any time it has been off my wrist.
If the HR monitor is turned off, and the Versa detects no movement, after a few moments the lights will turn off.
I hope this helps. Welcome to the forums!

@Julia_G You've misunderstood the problem that @CEOL was describing.
Yes, she was wondering if she's being tracked, but the main issue is that the green HR lights are staying on CONTINUOUSLY. They do NOT shut off after a few seconds. They stay on all the time, even when you're not wearing the Fitbit. And it drains the battery in a matter of hours. This is a recurring problem with Fitbits. Multiple people talking about it here, and many people talking about it in the Alta HR forum.

@dic_57, I did not misunderstand. It is possible that that is what the problem @CEOL has, but she did not say so. Even though she posted on the Charge HR forum, the device she has is the Versa. I was letting her know that, unlike with the earlier trackers, more recent ones do NOT turn off the lights even with HR turned off. This is not a bug and is expected behaviour. Even with the HR turned off lights will flash any time you touch the tracker, move it, or even if you walk heavily across a room when it is on a nearby table, or place it near any source of vibration.
This should not be the case with the Alta HR (or the Charge HR, the topic of this forum) Is the Alta HR the Fitbit you have? If so, and you are finding that the lights do not turn off, have you tried giving your Alta HR a restart? You sometimes have to do this several times before it works. Also, do check in your app that the HR is definitely off, as whenever the app is udated some settings do not seem to be saved.

Standard response from Fitbit... Problem is identified and discussed with no response from the manufacturer. People either get frustrated and buy a new Fitbit and hope that one will work, or they dump it altogether and get a completely different tracker.
Since this is my second major issue that has been ignored by Fitbit, I will NOT be purchasing another product from them.

This is a deal breaker, I never thought I would be switching to an iwatch but will have to. Been using a Fitbit for more than 5 years since the company started, bought an iwatch but still stuck to Fitbit, I am in holiday in a foreign land and this Fitbit last basically 1 hour , the green light is always on. I can basically buy a new one but what's the assurance is there that the new one does not have same problem. This is 2019 and this problem has started since 2017 , it should have been fixed

I started to have this issue after charging my fitbit this morning. I've already got the heart monitor set to auto. I've reset the fitbit also and still have the issue. I have an Alta HR.

Hi,
I am having the same issue. I even turned off the heart rate, restarted my fitbit and the led lights are still on. Is there another option?

Nothing worked. No way to get off. I had to buy a new Fitbit. Sorry.
