More steps but less mileage recorded

I have a Charge 3 running on Android. On Sunday it recorded 13576 steps and 5.47 miles. 4 days later it recorded more steps, 13625, but less miles, 4.45 miles. How is there a whole mile difference?   I'm doing a mileage challenge this year and it's linking to my fitbit, but if the tracker is not going to consistently record the mileage for me it's useless.

On the day with less mileage, was one of your exercise sessions a walk or run that used the GPS?  If so, the GPS is probably more accurate with the distance, as day to day the Fitbit just guesses distance based on stride length.

Just a thought. 😀

Yes! GPS could account for the difference. I hadn't considered that since I
had previously measured, calculated and manually adjusted my stride in the
app and had turned the auto calculate off. But, found it turned back on
when I checked. I find the GPS data to be quite inaccurate. The average
step count for 1 mile is 2000 steps. The GPS data would put my step count
at over 3000 for 1 mile. That's a significant deviation from norm, with a
stride of roughly 17-18 inches.
