My Charge 3 died after 18 months

I've had my Charge 3 for 18 months and it has suddenly just died. Initially I thought the battery was flat so I attached it to the charger and a smiley face appeared on the screen (I'd never seen that before). I left it charging and when I disconnected it to use it was still dead. I tried a hard reset connected to charger, it vibrates and the smiley face appears again. I disconnect it and reconnect and it's still dead. I've tried changing clock faces - nothing. None of the lights are flashing on the back and no vibrations.  Can it really be dead after only 18 months?  I'm so disappointed!

My died also yesterday... Got error 001 twice also during my restart attempts.
Nothing else is showing on screen.

 

I know I got an app update from App Store.
