My Charge 3 is not turning on and overheating on charge

My fitbit went dead at the gym, I thought maybe the battery had died. When I got home popped it on charge and it flashed the smiley face, so I left it while I went to shower. When I returned it was very very hot, so I took it off charge. Have tried once more and it just over heats. Am assuming it's useless now!
